Mechanical Systems Design Engineer
Deep Fission
• Perform mechanical system engineering tasks for the development of Deep Fission’s surface facilities - from conceptual development through licensing, fabrication, construction, startup, and turnover. • Coordinates or prepares diagrams, specifications, procurement documents, and award recommendations. • Ensure effective coordination with the other engineering disciplines to maintain alignment on technical scope. • Advance designs rapidly in a dynamic environment, applying sound engineering judgment and calculated risk management. • Support interface activities between partner organizations and major subcontractors, participating in face-to-face events to create effective work and decision-making environments. • Contribute to general design coordination events such as mechanical system design reviews and in-person design workshops. • Promote a proactive nuclear safety culture across office and field-based activities. • Advocate for the Deep Fission company and its technology. • Participate in project planning (schedule and budgeting) and be prepared to commit to delivery against the project plan. • Provides assistance to project and construction management for mechanical system requirements, identifying issues as they arise during project execution.
Job Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in the relevant engineering discipline, including successful delivery of mechanical system designs.
- Background in regulated environments such as nuclear, aerospace, defense, utility or industrial capital projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field with a deep understanding of engineering fundamentals and modern design practices.
- Understanding of nuclear QA programs (e.g., NQA-1), and compliance documentation.
- Ability to perform in a design role supporting large design efforts with multiple interfaces and stakeholders.
- Ability to maintain communication and stakeholder engagement in a virtual and hybrid team environment.
- Ability to travel - candidate will be required to travel on a moderate basis depending on the project phase up to 20%.
- Must be a U.S. person eligible to meet DOE Export Control requirements under 10 CFR 810.

• Contributor for complex engagements and works directly with clients and the Design Engineering team to develop specifications, designs, budgets, timelines and manage expectations. • Conceptualize system designs and determine system requirements. • Strong Project Engineering (technical project management skills) background and the ability to manage various projects in multi-region. • Support and Lead projects in drafting/modeling of the security floor layouts for access control, video, intrusion, vehicle gate systems, system wiring diagrams, schematics, and back board layouts. • Develop the Bill of Materials (BOM) and support documentation for customer RFPs. • Develop detailed 30%, 60%, 90%, 100% IFC, and/or Shop Drawings via AutoCAD and Revit. • Research, identify, and recommend technology options for clients. • Perform QC by reviewing drawings and evaluating the need for design changes; make appropriate recommendations. • Ensure that production of drawings meet scope, schedule, and quality requirements. • DE may have client interaction and contribute to the P and L performance. • Strong understanding of Internal and External project lifecycles. • Maintains expertise in the industry through ongoing review of trade publications and seminars.
• Support the design of electronic security systems including access control, video surveillance, and intrusion detection solutions • Develop system concepts, specifications, and requirements aligned to client needs and project scope • Produce Bills of Materials (BOMs), estimates, and supporting documentation for proposals and projects • Develop and support design deliverables including 30%, 60%, 90%, and IFC drawings • Provide technical coordination to support system architecture, installation, and integration activities • Research, evaluate, and recommend security technologies and product solutions • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support design, engineering, and project delivery • Support client engagement activities, including clarifying requirements and managing expectations • Maintain project documentation and ensure alignment with design standards and requirements • Provide guidance to junior team members and support issue resolution across projects • Maintain knowledge of ESS technologies, industry trends, and best practices through ongoing training
