Principal Systems Engineer

Role Description NOTE: This position is Remote + Travel The Systems Engineer will be responsible for the public safety design and implementation of solutions for Motorola’s ASTRO 25 and adjacent technologies for State and Local government agencies. We are looking for Engineers who are energized by delivering solutions that truly make a difference. Note: This is a remote position with travel (25-50%) to support projects in T4E sub territory. Projects are varied in scope, ranging from a single-site installation for a local municipality to a complex statewide public safety communications system costing tens or hundreds of millions of dollars. The team comprises Sales, Project Management and System Engineering personnel working together in a high performance culture, often with demanding cycle times and high customer expectations because we are working on mission critical communication systems. Engineer of Record Project Responsibilities: - Design and implementation of the radio network including infrastructure, subscribers, mobile backhaul and WAN and CEN networks. - High level of customer and consultant interaction involving: - Customer design reviews - Customer witnessed staging and acceptance testing events - Coverage acceptance testing - Live system upgrades - Troubleshooting efforts - System buildout, configuration and acceptance testing in both lab staging and field environments - Radio coverage testing, frequency analysis and interference mitigation - Radio system licensing (FCC/Industry) - Preparation of system fleet map, encryption and radio programming templates - Complete system documentation - Live system cutovers and upgrades Qualifications - Radio Frequency Engineering principles - Land / Mobile Radio Engineering principles - RFDS principles to include antenna and cable selection, transmit combiners, receive multi-couplers, and lightning protection systems. - P25 Land Mobile Radio terminology and two-way subscriber radio provisioning methods. - Experience with Motorola ASTRO 25 architecture is a plus. - Servers and related systems to include: VMware ESXI, Linux, and Microsoft operating systems. - Construction of remote communication sites to include: site selection, grounding, compound development, tower and shelter requirements. - Fortinet and Juniper firewalls, Nokia 7705 series routers, Juniper SRX/MX (Junos) series routers, HP/Aruba and Juniper switches - Remote access using SSH, SCP, SFTP, RDP - Knowledge with point-to-point Microwave systems, Microwave RF & Network design - FCC licensing and frequency search - Software applications integration, Application Protocol Interfaces (API) concepts, computer operating systems, and the OSI model. - Networking protocols and devices including RSVP-TE, OSPF, ISIS, BGP, MPLS, SIP, RTP, SNMP, NAT, routers, switches, and stateful packet firewalls. - Knowledge of physical layer such as fiber, copper, and microwave. - Knowledge of IP networking, network design methodologies & troubleshooting (Ethernet, TCP/IP, L2/L3, MPLS). - Certifications a plus through CompTIA Network+, Juniper JNCIA-Junos, Nokia NRS1, CCNA or similar a plus. - Works collaboratively and builds relationships with other colleagues, customers, and third party service professionals. - Self-motivated, good written and oral communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills Requirements - Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering or technical discipline and 7+ years of engineering or technical experience OR 10 years of engineering or technical experience - Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required.
