Job Description

Senior Software Engineer, Frontend Platform

Roo

Role Description We're in the builder era. Prompt-to-feature workflows are real, AI coding tools are the new norm, and the teams that win will be the ones who set up the right infrastructure to move fast with them. We're hiring an engineer to own the frontend platform at Roo. That includes our design system, shared UI architecture, developer tooling, AI-assisted workflows, and the technical foundation that helps every team member build polished, consistent product experiences. You're creating the workflows that unlock capacity for the whole team. You'll identify and build the highest-leverage improvements to our frontend platform, from design system tooling and AI integrations to shared infrastructure, developer experience, and platform modernization. Your customers are every builder at Roo—engineers, designers, and AI agents. Success in this role means making it dramatically easier for all of them to build great product experiences. This is a high-agency, find-it-fix-it-ship-it role. You'll identify the problems, scope the solutions, and build them, without needing a full squad behind you. The right person is already using AI tools to move faster than anyone around them and sees this as a chance to do that at platform scale. Responsibilities - Own the long-term technical direction of Roo's frontend platform, including the systems, tooling, and architecture that power development across web and mobile. - Partner with Product and Design to evolve our design system as a foundational platform rather than a standalone library. - Make our design system effortless to consume by engineers, designers, and AI agents through thoughtful integrations, documentation, tooling, and developer workflows. - Lead platform initiatives like framework upgrades, React Native modernization, Expo adoption, and shared library evolution. - Own the migration of legacy components to our v2 design system — including the tooling and documentation that let the rest of the team complete the migration themselves. - Establish patterns that let engineers ship new pages and flows quickly from a component library that's built for how people actually build in 2026. - Improve developer experience through shared tooling, automation, documentation, templates, and workflows that increase engineering velocity. - Identify and eliminate the friction points that slow builders down — missing tokens, undocumented patterns, inconsistencies that force one-off decisions — and fix them systematically. Qualifications - Significant experience building production software, including a focus on frontend systems. - Strong full-stack engineering fundamentals with deep expertise in React and TypeScript. - React Native or mobile experience. - Experience working closely with designers and modern design systems. - Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development: Cursor, Claude, or similar. - You've connected design systems to prototyping tools, AI coding environments, or engineering pipelines. - You operate well in an eng org — you understand how to get work prioritized. Nice to Have - Familiarity with Storybook, style-dictionary, or design token pipelines. - Experience with animation and interaction frameworks (Framer Motion, Rive, Lottie). This Role Probably Isn't for You If... - You want someone to hand you a scoped project. - You're not actively using AI tools in your workflow. - You need a lot of structure to ship. - You want to stay inside the system. Compensation Please see below for compensation ranges based on our geographical tiering system recommended by external benchmark data (with example cities listed). - Tier 1 Pay Range (examples: San Francisco, NYC): $170,000 - $210,000 USD - Tier 2 Pay Range (examples: LA, Boston, Seattle, DC, San Diego, Chicago): $155,000 - $190,000 USD - Tier 3 Pay Range (examples: Austin, Dallas, Portland, Denver, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Sacramento): $145,000 - $180,000 USD - Tier 4 Pay Range (examples: Minneapolis, Miami, Atlanta, Phoenix, Orlando, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City): $135,000 - $170,000 USD Core Values Our Core Values are what shape us as an organization and we're looking for people who exhibit the same values in their professional life: - Bias to Urgency - Drive Measurable Impact - Seek Understanding - Solve Customer Problems - Have Fun! Benefits - Accelerated growth & learning potential. - Stipends for home office setup, continuing education, and monthly wellness. - Comprehensive health benefits to fit your needs with base medical plan covered at 100% with optional premium buy up plans. - 401K. - Unlimited Paid Time Off. - Paid Maternity/Paternity and reproductive care leave. - Gifts on your birthday & anniversary. - Opportunity for domestic travel, including for regional team building events. Company Description Overall, you would be part of a mission-driven company that will significantly empower the lives of all veterinary professionals and the health of the overall animal industry that seeks massive innovation. We have diverse, passionate & driven team members from a variety of backgrounds, and Roo is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees and candidates. We understand that your individual experience may not check every box but we still encourage you to apply even if you are not confident in every expectation listed. Ready to join the Roo-volution?!
