Role Description We are looking for a skilled Power BI & Data Analytics Engineer to transform engineering specifications into interactive dashboards, automated reports, and data-driven insights. Your role is to bring those specifications to life by building scalable Power BI solutions that utility clients rely on every day. You'll work at the intersection of engineering and software—connecting data from multiple systems, building robust data models, and creating reporting solutions that help municipal water utilities better understand and manage their infrastructure. If you enjoy solving complex data challenges, building high-quality reporting systems, and turning technical requirements into intuitive visualizations, we'd love to hear from you. Responsibilities - Dashboard Development - Build and maintain interactive dashboards and automated reports using Power BI. - Convert engineering specifications into accurate, user-friendly reporting solutions. - Design dashboards that present complex operational and infrastructure data in a clear and actionable format. - Continuously improve existing dashboards based on client and internal feedback. - Data Modeling & Analytics - Build scalable data models using SQL, Power BI, and Python. - Transform large volumes of time-series, asset, and operational data into meaningful insights. - Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and reporting reliability. - Optimize dashboard performance and reporting efficiency. - GIS & Data Integration - Integrate Esri GIS data into reporting solutions and visualizations. - Combine geospatial, operational, and asset management data into unified dashboards. - Develop mapping visualizations that support infrastructure planning and operational decision-making. - Cloud & API Development - Work with Microsoft Azure and Azure Fabric to support reporting and data solutions. - Develop and maintain API integrations that connect multiple business systems. - Support automated data pipelines and reporting workflows. - Collaboration & Continuous Improvement - Work closely with engineers to understand reporting requirements and technical calculations. - Learn complex water utility concepts and translate them into easy-to-understand dashboards. - Recommend improvements to reporting systems, data models, and development processes. - Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the company's reporting platform. Qualifications - You enjoy transforming complex technical data into meaningful business insights. - You can quickly understand engineering concepts and convert them into reporting solutions. - You are highly analytical and detail-oriented. - You enjoy solving complex data problems through automation and visualization. - You take ownership of your work and continuously look for ways to improve systems. - You thrive in collaborative, fast-moving technical environments. Requirements - Advanced experience developing dashboards and reports using Power BI. - Strong proficiency in SQL for querying, transforming, and modeling data. - Experience using Python for reporting, automation, or data processing. - Hands-on experience with Esri GIS. - Familiarity with Microsoft Azure and Azure Fabric. - Experience working with API integrations. - Strong understanding of data modeling and business intelligence best practices. - Experience working with complex datasets such as time-series, geospatial, or asset management data. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. - Excellent written and verbal English communication skills. Nice-to-Have - Experience working within the water utility, engineering, infrastructure, environmental, or asset management industries. - Experience developing frontend applications using React or Blazor. - Familiarity with Reporting Hub, IconMaps, Figma, or ClickUp. - Experience building automated reporting platforms for enterprise clients. What Does a Typical Day Look Like? Your day begins by reviewing engineering specifications and project priorities before building new Power BI dashboards and reporting features. You'll write SQL queries, create data models, integrate GIS and API data, automate reporting workflows with Python, and ensure dashboards accurately represent complex engineering calculations. Throughout the day, you'll collaborate with engineers to clarify reporting requirements, troubleshoot data issues, optimize dashboard performance, and contribute ideas that improve the company's reporting platform. By the end of the day, you've delivered reporting solutions that help municipal utility clients make smarter infrastructure decisions using real-time operational data. Interview Process - Initial Recruiter Screening - Client Interview - Offer Stage What Happens After You Apply Right after you apply, you'll receive an email invitation from Spark Hire to record your Intro Video. It's a short, self-recorded introduction completed on your own time and serves as the final step in completing your application.
