Role Description Join our team as a Civil Engineer! Matrix is seeking a self-driven mid to senior-level experienced Civil Engineer to join our team in one of our 8 office locations (Maumee, OH; Cincinnati, OH; Westminster, CO; Indianapolis, IN; Peachtree City, GA; Overland Park, KS; Edina, MN; Raleigh, NC). We will consider a fully remote option for the right candidate. The position is salaried and includes eligibility for overtime pay. The position will work independently and as a part of a diverse team of multi-discipline engineers and architects to solve problems and execute projects for industrial and manufacturing clients. The core duties of this position are to prepare designs and drawings for site development and industrial infrastructure projects. This position may also support our topographic surveying, 3D laser scanning, and ground penetrating radar services. The individual will hold a professional engineer's license or ability to obtain license within 12 months of employment. Level of responsibility will depend on current skill sets and the ability to learn and show competence in completing assignments and leading junior engineers. Key Responsibilities - Lead designs for site grading, site layout, stormwater management, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, water/firewater piping, pavement, parking lots, private roads/drives, erosion and sediment control, railroad spurs and general site development for industrial and manufacturing facilities. - Lead the development of engineering contract documents including drawings, details, specifications, and installation scopes of work using AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office programs. - Lead gathering field data including hand measurements, surveying, 3D scanning, and ground penetrating radar. - Lead estimating material take-offs and preparing budgetary construction cost estimates. Qualifications - Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from a four-year ABET-accredited college or university. - Four (4) to ten (10) years of related civil engineering experience. - Experience in engineering consulting and/or working at manufacturing facilities preferred. - PE Required or ability to obtain within 12 months of start date. - Must be able to travel up to 20% local/daytime travel; occasional overnight travel may be required. - Must be proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite. - Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred. - Knowledge of topographic surveying and/or 3D laser scanning preferred. - Ability to self-manage assignments for multiple projects concurrently. - Positive attitude and eagerness to learn new skills. • Plan, coordinate, and oversee structural engineering design and construction activities for new correctional facilities • Review structural engineering documents prepared by consultant A/E firms for completeness, constructability, code compliance, and engineering adequacy • Evaluate structural framing systems, building envelopes, foundations, retaining structures, and other structural components for safety, durability, and long-term performance • Coordinate structural design with civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, architectural, and security disciplines • Provide technical recommendations regarding structural systems, materials, seismic considerations, wind loading, and foundation integration • Serve as the technical authority for resolving complex structural engineering issues affecting facility safety, construction, and operational performance • Develop engineering policies, technical standards, design criteria, and structural guidelines supporting FBOP construction programs • Participate in Value Engineering (VE) workshops to improve constructability, reduce life-cycle costs, and optimize structural system performance • Review contractor requests for information (RFIs), change orders, claims, and contract modifications involving structural work and recommend appropriate action • Conduct technical evaluations of proposed project sites to identify structural design considerations and potential construction constraints • Participate in site inspections and construction observations to verify compliance with approved structural designs and engineering standards • Assist in developing construction cost estimates and evaluating structural construction costs • Participate on technical evaluation panels for Architect/Engineer and Construction Management procurements • Provide engineering support during contract negotiations, construction administration, and dispute resolution • Assist in developing and maintaining engineering documentation, standards, technical files, and project records
