Role Description We are seeking a Multi-Cloud Architect to design strategies, reference architectures, and platform capabilities that span multiple cloud providers — AWS, Azure, GCP, and selectively OCI — for enterprises operating on more than one cloud by deliberate choice. The role focuses on portability, abstraction layers, federated identity, cross-cloud networking, and platform offerings that hide cloud-specific complexity from product teams. The ideal candidate has architected meaningful multi-cloud capabilities, understands the trade-offs between portability and cloud-native depth, and brings strong opinions grounded in production experience. Key Responsibilities - Define multi-cloud strategy, target-state architecture, and adoption guardrails across AWS, Azure, GCP, and OCI as relevant. - Design federated identity, SSO, and cross-cloud authorization patterns that let workloads and engineers move between providers without compromising on least-privilege, auditability, or operational simplicity. - Architect cross-cloud networking including transit hubs, private connectivity, and zero-trust patterns. - Establish reusable infrastructure-as-code patterns that abstract cloud-specific implementations where appropriate. - Define container, Kubernetes, and serverless strategies that work consistently across providers. - Design data architecture strategies for cross-cloud data movement, residency, and analytics. - Drive multi-cloud observability, security monitoring, and unified policy enforcement, designing approaches that work consistently across providers and avoid the complexity of fragmented per-cloud tooling stacks. - Establish FinOps practices that operate consistently across multiple cloud providers. - Lead disaster recovery and business continuity strategies that span clouds. - Partner with security architects on multi-cloud security models, KMS strategies, and key management. - Provide guidance to engineering teams on when to use cloud-agnostic versus cloud-native patterns. - Produce high-quality architecture artifacts — context diagrams, sequence diagrams, decision records, and reference designs — that capture key technical decisions clearly enough to be understood months or years later. - Engage with cloud providers and partners to evaluate roadmap alignment. - Stay current with multi-cloud platform and tooling developments, regularly review release notes and community discussions, and translate noteworthy advances into concrete recommendations and adoption proposals for the team. Qualifications - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field. - Eight or more years of experience in cloud architecture roles. - Hands-on architecture experience across at least two major cloud providers. - Deep understanding of cloud networking, identity, and security across multiple providers. - Strong experience with infrastructure-as-code and policy-as-code across clouds. - Experience designing federated identity and SSO across cloud platforms. - Solid understanding of Kubernetes, container platforms, and managed cloud services. - Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. - Multiple cloud certifications across providers. - Track record of leading multi-cloud architecture initiatives. Preferred Qualifications - Experience with abstraction platforms (Crossplane, Pulumi, Terraform CDK). - Familiarity with cloud-agnostic observability platforms. - Experience driving large-scale cloud-to-cloud migrations. - Exposure to regulated industries with multi-cloud mandates. - Public talks or writing on multi-cloud architecture. • Lead, mentor, and develop the Cloud Engineering and DevOps teams: set technical direction, establish engineering standards and runbooks, conduct performance management and career development conversations, and recruit and onboard new talent • Architect, build, and operate MSD’s AWS environment across multiple accounts using AWS Organizations, Control Tower, and a landing-zone reference architecture • Stay deeply hands-on: write and review production Terraform, author CI/CD pipelines, debug production incidents, optimize cluster and database performance, and contribute code that the team will live with years • Own and evolve MSD’s Infrastructure-as-Code standard (Terraform preferred; CloudFormation and CDK as needed) • Operate and extend MSD’s container and compute platforms (Amazon ECS, EKS/Kubernetes, EC2, Lambda, and serverless services) and the tooling around them • Design and operate MSD’s cloud networking foundation — VPC, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, hybrid connectivity to on-prem and partner environments, Route 53, and edge services • Own the CI/CD platform and developer-platform tooling that accelerates delivery while enforcing required quality, security, and validation controls • Partner with Cybersecurity on cloud security engineering • Lead Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices • Partner on cloud-native solution design, application onboarding, and migration patterns • Support MSD’s regulated environment • Manage strategic vendor relationships and serve as the senior technical voice in vendor architecture and capacity discussions • Develop and own the cloud platform roadmap; partner with IS/IT leadership on planning, budgeting, and capability investment decisions
