Role Description SmartCommerce is looking for a Software Engineer, Forward Deployed to build AI agents that automate operational workflows using the Claude SDK, integrating with internal systems such as Jira and Slack and with third-party APIs. This role is well-suited to an early-career engineer who is comfortable learning quickly and working hands-on with modern AI development tooling. Responsibilities - Design, build, and deploy AI agents using the Claude SDK to automate operational workflows - Integrate AI agents with internal tools such as Jira and Slack, and with third-party APIs - Collaborate with senior engineers and product stakeholders to scope and iterate on agent capabilities - Write clean, well-tested, well-documented code - Leverage AI coding tools (Claude, Cursor, Codex, Gemini, etc.) throughout the development lifecycle - Monitor, debug, and improve agent reliability and performance in production - Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field with 2+ years of professional software engineering experience, OR a Master's degree in Computer Science - Demonstrated experience building software in a professional or academic setting - Experience with the Claude SDK or comparable LLM/agent development frameworks - Proficiency with AI coding tools (Claude, Cursor, Codex, Gemini, etc.) - Experience integrating with third-party and internal APIs (e.g., Jira, Slack) - Solid programming fundamentals - Nice to Have: Experience with LangGraph or Google ADK (Agent Development Kit) - Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship - Ability to pass background check Requirements - Remote - from home office with occasional travel as needed.
