Job Description

Academic Coach – Writing

Workforce and Community Education

• Assist students in understanding the foundation of scholarly writing and using an academic voice • Assist students in understanding APA guidelines related specifically to written communication • Assist the student in being able to critically analyze existing research with a focus on qualitative methodology • Assist students in presenting a compelling argument for why a study is needed that is rooted in existing literature and theory • Implement best practices in working with adult, and online students at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels • Provide synchronous one-to-one and group academic coaching • Provide asynchronous screencast or written coaching feedback • Assist students in becoming autonomous, self-directed learners • Provide post-coaching session feedback to students • Maintain records of student contact • Engage in the assessment of student learning • Help students identify their learning strengths and weaknesses and connect them with the necessary resources to aid in success • Evaluate student learning styles, skills, deficiencies, and goals; identify appropriate learning resources for them to use • Develop academic resources to include video tutorials and lessons on assigned topics • Stay current with organizational, educational, and faculty development policies that affect the academic Success Center (ASC) • Continually improve coaching skills • Support the mission of the Academic Success Center (ASC) within National University • Participate in required training, coaching, and other activities that promote high-quality coaching • Attend team meetings • Other duties as assigned by the Academic Success Center (ASC) Director and/or Coordinator

Job Requirements

  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution required
  • Doctoral degree preferred
  • 1-3 years of relevant coaching or tutoring experience preferred
  • Demonstrated success working with non-traditional (adult) students required
  • Tutoring or academic coaching certification or evidence of university teaching excellence preferred
  • Previous success in tutoring, academic coaching, or teaching written communication preferred
  • Ability to provide personalized instruction in non-technical language based on students’ unique strengths and growth areas with little to no preparation required
  • Experience in an online learning environment required
  • Proficiency in using technology in the delivery of education required
  • Experience working with online doctoral students preferred
  • Demonstrated success in guiding doctoral students through dissertation completion preferred
  • Experience in higher education preferred
  • Experience working in a technology-driven enterprise preferred

Role Description Grant Writers (GW) at AMC are responsible for making significant contributions to our clients' work and to the communities they support through skillfully crafting grants. The GW will work collaboratively with the AMC team to coordinate grant-related activities, communicate with clients, assist with research, write compelling proposals, and complete other grants-related work as needed. The GW is evaluated based on how they carry out these responsibilities; overall client and employee satisfaction as measured by formal and informal client and team feedback; and the progress they have made towards the performance goals outlined in their annual goal-setting worksheets. Key Responsibilities and Tasks - Write and prepare 10-15 foundation grant products per month and/or the equivalent in public grants in accordance with the guidelines and requirements of each funding source. - Craft persuasive narratives that effectively communicate the nonprofit's goals, objectives, and impact to potential funders. - Utilize AMC time-tracking software (Harvest), project management software (Asana), and keep their AMC Google Calendar up to date for scheduling purposes. - Collaborate with Lead Consultants, Development Coordinators, and other team members to gather information and data necessary for grant applications. - Analyze the financial aspects of grant opportunities, assess their feasibility, and ensure alignment with the client's financial goals. - Conduct research to identify potential grant opportunities that align with the client's mission and projects. - Stay up-to-date with available grants from government agencies, foundations, and other funding sources. - Other duties as determined by the client. Qualifications - Deep understanding of the grant writing process, including research, proposal development, and deadlines management. - Skilled at crafting clear and compelling narratives, aligning proposals with funding source priorities, and meeting submission requirements. - Familiar with different fundraising strategies and approaches within the nonprofit sector. - Proficient researcher who can identify grant opportunities, assess eligibility, and gather relevant data and evidence. - Competent in project management skills for ensuring that grant applications are well-organized and submitted on time. - Well-versed in compliance requirements of different grantors and capable of developing reporting systems. - Strong financial management and compliance expertise. - Excellent analytical skills and proficiency in research tools. - Comfortable using various software platforms (Asana, Google Workplace, Foundation Directory Online, Salesforce, etc.). - Adept at time and self-management, prioritizing tasks effectively.
