Role Description The Client is looking for an experienced DB2 Database administrator. The role will require you to manage, configure, and maintain DB2 databases running on mainframe platforms. - Perform database installation, upgrades, patches, migrations, and version management. - Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and tune DB2 components to ensure high availability. - Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies to meet client continuity requirements. Qualifications - 15+ years of strong hands-on experience with IBM DB2 (LUW or z/OS depending on environment). - Expertise in database design, data modeling, schema management, and SQL optimization. - Knowledge of high-availability technologies (HADR, replication, failover, clustering). - Experience supporting complex, transactional, high-volume systems (government or DMV systems ideal). - Familiarity with ETL processes, Data Mining, Data Storage, Data warehousing. - Knowledge of IBM batch jobs, and integration with enterprise applications. - Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and performance tuning skills. Requirements - Support the DESTINY application team by optimizing database queries, stored procedures, packages, and triggers. - Work closely with developers to integrate enhancements, fixes, and new functionalities aligned with business needs. - Ensure application releases and data model changes are synchronized with database environments. - Maintain data integrity through robust data validation, referential integrity, and error-handling practices. - Enforce database security standards, user access controls, and audit requirements consistent with DC government policies. - Support compliance with privacy and data protection rules applicable to DMV-related personal information. - Use DB2 monitoring tools to proactively identify performance bottlenecks. - Analyze SQL performance, query execution plans, and recommend optimizations. - Tune databases, memory pools, indexes, and storage structures for improved system throughput. - Support ongoing fixes, enhancements, and modernization efforts related to the DESTINY system. - Collaborate with client infrastructure teams on server performance, storage, and network connectivity affecting DB2. - Implement schema modifications, table restructuring, indexing strategies, and partitioning as required. - Provide technical knowledge and support to District agencies, personnel, and additional stakeholders. - Perform other related duties as assigned. - May coordinate activities of application developers. - Able to identify best practices and standards for the use of the product. - Delivers support and design for industry-specific applications that require integration with statewide systems or applications. - Interacts with executive-level business users or technical experts. - May function as a niche technical SME (Subject Matter Expert). Role Description 3 to 4 years of Technical Knowledge in troubleshooting SQL Server issues such as: - Always On - Failover Cluster Manager - Performance Troubleshooting - SQL Server Agent Jobs - Replication Should have basic knowledge on: - Writing T-SQL scripts - Analyzing stored procedures and T-SQL code - Troubleshooting technical issues from system/application perspective Sound knowledge on: - Windows Server - Windows Server logs - Windows storage system - Windows printing - IIS – Web services Preferred knowledge but not essential: - Knowledge of Active Directory - Basic knowledge on Networking - Knowledge on SQL Server backup and recovery strategies Verbal and written command of the English language.
