Power System Protection and Control Engineer
GE Vernova
• Execute Protection and Control Engineering and Consulting services in Transmission, Distribution and Industrial markets in the US and Canada. • Design and deliver complex protection solutions for generation, transmission, distribution systems for electrical utilities and industrial clients. • Perform engineering studies and analyses such as: short circuit, load flow, ground grid design, Lightening protection studies, Insulation coordination, arc-flash studies, protective device coordination, etc. • Create relay setting files including programming of Protection and Control Elements, Control Logic and Communications settings. • Test customized Protection and Control solutions in house and at customer installations. • Provide factory acceptance test plans and testing services to validate protection designs for customer witnessing. • Participate in project meetings with project managers and customers on technical discussions.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor or higher degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering
- Five (5) years of experience in design, study, and analysis of electric power systems.
- Must hold or be eligible to obtain a Professional Engineer license in at least one state
- Knowledge of power system steady and transient analysis, fault study and protection theory.
- Familiar with symmetrical components.
- Willingness to work with the team to review and stamp engineering drawings and studies as needed and with proper training and supervision
- Willingness to represent the company and apply for permits to conduct engineering services as needed
- Working experience with study software and power system tools such as Mathcad, MATLAB, ASPEN, CAPE, SKM, CDEGS, WinIGS, or ETAP
- Working knowledge on substation communication protocols such as IEC 61850, DNP, Modbus
- Knowledge or field experience with system commissioning and testing including Doble / Omicron test equipment or similar
- Ethical and professional business manner in interaction with team members and customers.
- Technical skills to execute projects, identify opportunities, and write SOW proposals.
- Strong communication skills including technical writing and presentations.
- Strong learning skills, demonstrated team player and Customer focused
- Professional engineering accreditation is not essential but definitely would be an asset.
