Job Description
Senior SDET – Software Development Engineer in Test
SpryPoint
• Design and build the test automation framework and the standards other engineers will follow. • Write and maintain automated tests across the stack: API, integration, and end-to-end UI. • Prioritize automation by risk and value, favoring fast, reliable API-level tests over brittle UI tests where possible. • Integrate tests into CI/CD so they run automatically on every change and give fast feedback. • Drive down flakiness and keep the suite trustworthy, so failures mean something. • Evaluate and apply AI-assisted testing tools (test generation, self-healing tests, failure triage), and use AI and prompt engineering to accelerate test creation and edge-case discovery. • Review AI-generated tests and code with a critical eye (you are the human-in-the-loop, not a rubber stamp). • Mentor other engineers on automation practices and help raise testing quality across squads
Job Requirements
- 5+ years in software test automation or software engineering with a strong testing focus.
- Strong coding skills in at least one of: Python, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript.
- Deep experience with a modern automation framework (Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium) including building or owning a framework, not just writing tests inside one.
- Solid API testing experience (Postman, REST Assured, or similar) and comfort with SQL and database validation.
- Hands-on experience integrating tests into CI/CD (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI).
- Working knowledge of cloud (AWS) and containers (Docker).
- A pragmatic, risk-based mindset and the judgement to know what's worth automating.
- Experience using AI coding assistants or AI test-generation tools in real work (GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor, or similar), with a clear view of their strengths and limits.
- Comfort writing effective prompts to generate test ideas, edge cases, and to analyze failures.
Benefits
- Remote-first environment, flexible working hours across North America, and hub offices in Charlottetown & Atlanta
- Comprehensive compensation package that grows with you
- MacBook + $800 to create your ideal home workspace
- Health, dental, vision, and life insurance from day one
- Generous PTO and unlimited sick days
- RRSP (Canada) and 401k (US) matching programs
- $2,500 annual development fund, tuition assistance, and Book Bounty program
- Annual company events and team offsites that bring us together

• Develop, maintain, and enhance end-to-end UI automation using Playwright and TypeScript. • Build maintainable automation following Page Object Model (POM) and reusable framework patterns. • Ensure automation supports parallel execution, browser context management, and reliable CI execution. • Maintain stable, scalable, and reusable automation for assigned business workflows. • Develop and maintain API automation using Python and pytest. • Automate REST, GraphQL, and SOAP API validation. • Create reusable fixtures, client abstractions, and parameterized test suites. • Maintain Postman and Newman collections for API smoke testing and contract validation. • Integrate automated test suites into Jenkins CI/CD pipelines. • Configure and maintain smoke, sanity, functional, and regression test execution. • Monitor automation quality and continuously improve execution reliability. • Design and maintain WireMock stubs for API and microservice simulation. • Utilize AI-assisted development tools to improve automation productivity. • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives. • Document automation solutions and maintain knowledge-sharing resources.
• Eliminate manual QA dependency and build scalable automated testing • Design and evolve test architecture and tooling that scales across services and teams • Own test strategy across services — determine what to test, where to test it, and how to maximize signal while minimizing runtime • Improve CI/CD confidence and release safety while increasing deployment velocity • Reduce regression risk through high-value test coverage rather than brute-force test expansion • Proactively detect, diagnose, and eliminate flaky or low-signal tests
• Develop, maintain, and execute test automation for Web, Mobile, API, and Data applications; • Create and evolve automation scripts using tools such as WebdriverIO, Appium, Postman, and PactumJS; • Automate tests on Android and iOS devices; • Integrate automated test execution into CI/CD pipelines, ensuring quality with each deployment; • Identify, log, track, and manage defects using tools such as LambdaTest, Kanbanize, or similar; • Prepare test reports, track quality metrics, and monitor Quality Gates; • Configure and run tests in Device Farms; • Contribute to defining and evolving the test strategy, promoting quality across all stages of the development cycle.
• Own end-to-end test automation for our Blazor WebAssembly front end, including UI and functional test suites (e.g., Playwright). • Build and maintain API test coverage for our .NET Core back-end APIs, Azure Function apps, and dedicated authentication service — integration, contract, and regression testing. • Establish mobile test automation for our .NET MAUI mobile application across iOS and Android. • Leverage Claude Enterprise to generate, refactor, and maintain test scripts efficiently, and help define best practices for AI-assisted testing on the team. • Integrate testing into CI/CD so automated suites run on every build and release, with clear pass/fail signals and actionable failure reporting. • Track and report quality metrics — escaped defects, coverage, flaky test rates — and use them to drive improvement. • Partner with developers to make testability a first-class concern in design and code review, and to reproduce, isolate, and verify bug fixes. • Perform targeted exploratory testing where automation isn't the right tool, especially for new features and edge cases.
