Engineering Manager
BankrateWith five decades of trust and market leadership, Bankrate is transforming into an AI-powered fintech platform that puts consumers in control—connecting them to the best financial products to save more, earn more, and get ahead faster.
*This role is open to remote or hybrid candidates (East Coast preference), with hybrid being central to our New York, NY or Charlotte area offices. Must be able to work Eastern Standard Time hours. In this role, you will lead a small engineering team as a hands-on player-coach — owning the team’s delivery and health, developing the engineers on it, and still contributing directly to the codebase where it adds the most leverage. Engineering Managers turn roadmaps into shipped software through the people they lead, balancing people leadership, delivery management, and personal technical contribution in a deliberately lean, AI-forward environment. Impact on the business: Engineering Managers are the connective tissue between strategy and execution. They build healthy, high-performing teams that ship reliable, money-touching software; they grow engineers from junior through senior; and they multiply their team’s output by staying close enough to the work to unblock it, hold the quality bar, and model strong engineering practice. What You’ll Do: - Lead a team of 2–4 engineers (junior through senior), owning their day-to-day management, growth, and performance. - Own sprint-to-sprint delivery — planning, prioritization, sequencing, and honest communication of scope, timeline, and risk. - Manage individual performance and development through regular 1:1s, actionable feedback, career growth conversations, and the harder conversations when they’re needed. - Contribute hands-on to the codebase where it adds the most leverage — typically the ambiguous, load-bearing, or unblocking work — while deliberately leaving well-scoped growth opportunities to the team. - Partner with Product, Design, and peer engineering teams to align on priorities, resolve dependencies, and translate business goals into deliverable work. - Own team health and operational quality, including on-call, incident response, and a real quality and compliance bar in a regulated, money-touching domain. - Cultivate a collaborative, continuous learning, and inclusive team culture. - Champion high-leverage, AI-forward ways of working that raise the team’s throughput without compromising quality. - Remove blockers, shield the team from unnecessary noise, and create the conditions for engineers to do their best work What We’re Looking For: - Experience leading and managing a small engineering team, or a technical lead / player-coach ready to formalize into people management. - Still technically hands-on and credible — able to review, contribute to, and make sound decisions within a modern TypeScript codebase. - Strong people-leadership skills: coaching, feedback, performance management, and developing engineers across levels. - Solid delivery management: decomposing work, sequencing, managing dependencies and risk, and communicating status honestly. - Clear communicator with both technical and non-technical stakeholders; comfortable managing up, across, and outward. - Comfortable with ambiguity and a lean operating model; biases toward leverage and automation over headcount. - Remains hands-on within our primarily TypeScript-based stack spanning API services and full-stack web applications. - Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS), infrastructure-as-code, and CI/CD automation. - Familiar with observability/APM and incident-response tooling; upholds operational and quality standards for a regulated, money-touching product. - Leverages AI tooling to increase team throughput and reduce toil. Compensation: This range reflects total cash compensation, which may include base salary only or base salary plus target bonus, depending on the role. Where eligible, equity may also be offered separately and not included below. Actual compensation varies based on location, experience, and qualifications. - Total Cash Compensation Range: $160,000 – $210,000 per year Additionally, the following benefits are provided by Red Ventures, subject to eligibility requirements. - Health Insurance Coverage (medical, dental, and vision) - Life Insurance - Short and Long-Term Disability Insurance - Flexible Spending Accounts - Holiday Pay - 401(k) with match - Employee Assistance Program - Paid Parental Bonding Benefit Program - Flexible Paid Time Off (PTO): We believe time to rest and recharge is essential. That’s why we offer a generous and flexible PTO policy. Full-time employees accrue 20 days of PTO for a full calendar year annually, with an increase to 25 days after five years of service.
