Senior BESS Engineer
ENTRUST Solutions Group
Job Summary: The Senior BESS Engineer provides technical leadership and subject-matter expertise for battery energy storage projects across utility-scale and commercial markets. This role is responsible for independent engineering judgment, client advisory support, and mentoring/training junior engineers, while ensuring designs meet regulatory, safety, and performance requirements. This position works closely with clients, utilities, EPCs, OEMs, and internal multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, compliant, and constructible BESS solutions. What you'll do: Act as a trusted advisor to clients, providing engineering recommendations, risk assessments, and design alternatives Lead the design of utility-scale and/or C&I BESS including batteries, PCS/inverters, MV/LV equipment, transformers, protection, grounding, and auxiliary systems Develop and review one-line diagrams, layouts, control schematics, grounding plans, and specifications Support interconnection applications, utility coordination, and technical negotiations Evaluate battery performance, degradation, thermal behavior, and system lifecycle considerations Review OEM and EPC technical submittals, compliance matrices, and FAT/SAT documentation Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 855, UL 9540 / 9540A, IEEE, IEC, and AHJ requirements Support fire protection coordination, hazard mitigation strategies, and safety narratives Participate in or lead technical risk reviews and HAZOP-style assessments Support RFP responses, proposals, and engineering cost estimates Coordinate across civil, structural, protection & controls, and SCADA disciplines What We Offer: A supportive and inclusive work environment that values diversity and encourages innovation. This position pays between $100K and $150K annually and is an exempt position. Benefits offered include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) plan with company match. Also offered are tuition reimbursement, voluntary life, disability, critical illness, accident and hospitalization plans. HSA or FSA medical accounts and FSA dependent care and transportation/parking accounts are also available. These benefits are subject to employee contribution amounts generally set annually. Full-time employees are eligible to earn PTO hours. May be eligible for discretionary bonus as determined by the company. Minimum Qualifications: 7–12+ years of electrical or power engineering experience 5+ years of direct experience with BESS, renewables, or utility-scale power projects Experience working in an engineering consulting, EPC, or utility advisory role Strong knowledge of medium- and high-voltage systems and substation-connected assets Proven experience with battery technologies (e.g., Li-ion / LFP), PCS, EMS, and protection systems Proficiency with tools such as ETAP, SKM, PSCAD, PowerWorld, AutoCAD, or equivalent Why Join Us?
