Undergraduate Internship, Detained Adult Program – Direct Representation

Amica Center for Immigrant Rights

• Provide invaluable administrative and programmatic support to our staff at the Detained Adult Program • Conduct individualized country conditions research for asylum and other protection-based cases • Assist in the preparation of applications for immigration relief and other forms related to the immigration case such as FOIA requests • Assist with interpretation and translation • Assist with our hotline for detained adults • Obtain criminal and medical records and collect other evidence in support of clients’ cases • Communicate with clients and their family members via telephone

Job Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program
  • Ability to commit 15-20 hours a week
  • Spanish fluency
  • Strong interest in human rights, social justice, and immigration rights issues
  • Excellent research and writing skills
  • Willingness to complete administrative work
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Ability to relate to and work with low-income clients with histories of trauma and/or previous interactions with the criminal justice system is a plus.

Qualifications - Licensed as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) by the California Board of Nursing (required). - Active licensure, registration, or certification must be maintained in good standing. - Current DEA certification. - Experience working in higher level of care/hospital setting (required). - Ability to demonstrate understanding of a variety of models and theories of addiction, mental illness, and related issues (preferred). - Successfully complete comprehensive background check. - Superior analytical and problem-solving abilities. - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. - EIN required as an Independent Contractor.
