Texture Artist Mid/Senior

Crafty Apes VFX

Role Description We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Texture Artist to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for a Mid to Senior level artist to contribute to our visual effects pipeline, creating high-quality, photo-realistic surface textures that meet the technical and aesthetic standards of our high-end projects. The Texture Artist will be responsible for creating detailed texture maps for a variety of assets, from characters and complex props to large-scale environments. You will work closely with Art Directors, VFX Supervisors, and the Look Development team to ensure textures are painted, managed, and integrated seamlessly into our production pipeline. - Create high-quality, photo-realistic texture maps (diffuse, specular, bump, displacement, etc.) for characters, props, and environments. - Utilize reference photography and digital painting techniques to achieve high levels of surface detail and realism. - Collaborate closely with the Modeler and Look Development departments to ensure UVs are optimized and shaders are set up to showcase your textures effectively. - Actively participate in the review process, taking feedback from Supervisors and Art Directors to iterate on asset quality and realism. - Troubleshoot texture and shading issues, providing creative and technical solutions to production challenges. - Maintain organized project files and naming conventions, adhering to the studio’s pipeline standards. Qualifications - 3+ years (Mid) 5+ years (Senior) of professional experience as a Texture Artist in a VFX, feature film, or high-end episodic production environment. - Expert proficiency in industry-standard texturing software (e.g., Substance Painter/Designer, Mari, Adobe Photoshop). - A strong understanding of PBR (Physically Based Rendering) workflows and material properties. - Strong artistic eye for color, detail, surface properties, and weathering. - Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a collaborative, fast-paced team environment.
