Role Description The Virtual Learning Lab/ISS (In School Suspension) Teacher is responsible for fulfilling the requirements of classroom instruction with punctuality, reliability, and responsibility. - Prepares lesson plans appropriate for classroom/content/grade level assignment. - Exercises proper care of materials and equipment. - Communicates needs of the classroom to the proper personnel. - Arrives for work at the assigned hour and does not leave before the assigned time. - Communicates appropriately and effectively with staff members, parents, students, and administration. - Accepts assistance, advice, and guidance from supervisors and makes efforts to improve skills. - Shares ideas, plans, materials, and facilities. - Seeks professional learning appropriate to district, school, and personal goals. - Keeps confidential information obtained during professional service, unless disclosure serves a professional purpose or is required by law. - Respects the rights, feelings, and differences among individuals and communicates directly with involved persons. - Adheres to the professional code of ethics stipulated by the Kentucky Department Professional Board. Qualifications - Approved Certification with State of Kentucky. Requirements - Employs classroom management techniques that create a positive atmosphere for teaching and learning. - Begins class promptly and communicates expected behaviors to students. - Ensures student behaviors promote active engagement in lessons. - Intervenes immediately and appropriately for inappropriate behaviors. - Chooses and handles appropriate materials and/or equipment efficiently. - Engages in effective unit/lesson planning following established curriculum documents. - Establishes appropriate objectives for each unit/lesson. - Utilizes effective teaching strategies to promote student engagement and achievement. - Recognizes student differences in needs, abilities, and interests. - Communicates lesson objectives and relevance to students. - Relates current learning to previous learnings. - Informs students how they will demonstrate proficiency in learning. - Demonstrates sound, up-to-date knowledge of the subject matter. - Checks for student understanding throughout the lesson. - Provides a variety of practice experiences to ensure mastery of objectives. - Demonstrates knowledge of reinforcement theory throughout the lesson. - Maintains a classroom climate conducive to learning. - Incorporates student interests into lesson activities. - Encourages and acknowledges student effort appropriately. - Manages instruction to ensure each student demonstrates success. - Schedules practice to guarantee retention of learnings. - Allows students to verbalize critical attributes of learning before lesson conclusion. - Collects data to evaluate student performance and assist in planning future lessons. • Serve as the teacher of record and primary instructor in all core content areas and grade levels • Relentlessly work to meet all goals related to student achievement and culture as well as state specific academic accountability goals • Deliver highly effective live lessons via web conference based on student need, rooted in research-based instructional practices • Complete course set up for each course within the Learning Management System • Monitor student progress in asynchronous courses and provide feedback/grade assignments daily • Track and maintain contact with each student • Collaborate with Principal to create and deliver Progress Reports of Students • Review student level data frequently to inform instructional program adjustments • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students • Utilize research-based best practices in both synchronous and asynchronous instruction • Create a joyful, caring, and loving classroom environment for all students • Integrate culturally responsive teaching practices into daily lessons and interactions with students, parents, and colleagues • Implement school-wide culture expectations and norms, inside the classroom and beyond • Communicate regularly with families regarding the academic and social-emotional growth of their child • Incorporate 21st century technology skills into daily classroom practice and team settings • Participate in the planning and implementation of non-instructional activities such as social events and field trips and attend these events in person • Collaborate and communicate effectively, humbly, and respectfully with all colleagues • Travel to support required face-to-face state testing annually • Perform other duties as assigned
