Field Technician – Energy & Carbon
ABB
• Conduct assessments, inspections, and complete maintenance on client’s energized assets • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and perform maintenance services on various electrical systems, including solar PV, EV charging stations, and battery electric storage systems • Perform inspections and maintenance activities on energy systems including Solar PV, EV charging stations, and battery electric storage systems • Troubleshoot and identify root cause(s) of problems affecting the proper operation and performance of hardware assets • Open live electrical equipment exposing energized connections for inspection • Respond to client concerns regarding the performance or functionality of their systems • Identify and escalate concerns to the appropriate level and suggest potential improvements • Perform inspection, assessment, and maintenance activities on client’s energized assets as needed • Adhere to and maintain compliance with all ABB Safety policy • Proactively book all components of work travel for assigned jobs including hotels, air travel, and/or car rental through provided travel planning platform
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 2+ years of experience in an electrical technician role
- Electrical trade skills and previous experience; ability to read and understand electrical diagrams
- NFPA 70 E Certified is a plus
- Analytical ability and high technical aptitude
- Capability of critical thinking and ability to solve complex mechanical and electrical problems
- Ability to interact with client representatives and internal stakeholders in a professional and courteous manner
- Computer literacy, familiar with Windows programs and Microsoft Office tools
- Self-motivated and capable of working effectively without direct supervision

• Perform visual inspections of water or electric meters for leaks or damage. • Identify hazards at meter sites and report accordingly. • Properly change out water or electric meters of varying sizes and brands. • Properly change out meter registers for AMI/AMR upgrade. • Read electric, gas, or water meters. • Enter data collected in the field into a handheld computer. • Detect location of underground utilities and mark accordingly. • Inspect gas meters and associated piping for proper coatings and evidence of atmospheric corrosion. • Provide general information about the meter services to customers when applicable. • Use telephones, tablets, and/or computers to communicate.
