Role Description The Malacologist/Aquatic Biologist at EnviroScience is responsible for completion of aquatic survey services and project work and conducting field research, monitoring mollusk populations, and providing expertise in malacology to support environmental consulting efforts. This position includes but is not limited to field work, laboratory work, and data management while also other project efforts such as proposal preparation, technical report writing, and other aquatic survey or natural resources services. The candidate will focus on endangered or threatened species, particularly freshwater mussels, snails, and crayfish, and contribute to the development of conservation strategies to protect these species and their habitats. Essential Duties & Responsibilities - Field Research & Sampling - Conduct field surveys for freshwater mollusks and other aquatic species, primarily mussels and snails, using standardized protocols. - Perform species identification, population assessments, and habitat evaluations in aquatic environments (rivers, lakes, streams). - Collect biological samples for lab analysis, ensuring proper handling and documentation. - Conduct field surveys for macroinvertebrate communities in various habitats, such as lakes, rivers, and streams using various methods including kick nets, artificial habitats, and dredge samplers. - Collect in-situ measurements of water quality parameters (e.g., temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen) during sampling events. - Collect water samples for laboratory chemical or biological analysis. - Evaluate and document aquatic habitats, assessing features such as substrate composition, flow regime, and fish cover. - Identify aquatic species using taxonomic guides and laboratory analysis, focusing on the fauna of the midwestern and eastern United States, most specifically fish species. - Maintain equipment inventory and ensure proper storage and transportation. - Assist with other Marine Services or other practice area project work, as needed. - Data Analysis & Reporting - Analyze survey data and prepare detailed reports for internal use, clients, and regulatory agencies. - Maintain and update species databases and GIS mapping tools to track mollusk distributions. - Interpret scientific data to support conservation strategies and environmental impact assessments. - Regulatory Compliance & Collaboration - Ensure compliance with state and federal environmental regulations, including the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and Clean Water Act (CWA). - Collaborate with environmental agencies, conservation organizations, and other stakeholders to protect vulnerable species and their habitats. - Participate in public outreach efforts and educational programs related to conservation. - Report annual field activities to various federal and state agencies as required. - Project Management - Lead and oversee projects focused on environmental studies, endangered species, conservation, and habitat restoration. - Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure successful completion of environmental initiatives. - Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including biologists, hydrologists, and environmental engineers, to execute field research and mitigation projects. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, malacology, or a related field. - 5+ years of experience in biology or malacology, with an emphasis on freshwater mussels, snails, crayfish, bats, and/or other T&E species. - Currently possess or have the ability to attain federal recovery permit for mussels, crayfish, and bumblebees in WV, OH, and surrounding states. - Project management experience. Role Description The Consulting Staff Forester reports to the Operations Manager at ACRT Inc. This position will coordinate vegetation management activities across the Company transmission system, distribution system, substations, plants, and other properties. This position will interact with contractors, Company internal groups, customers, and property owners. This position will schedule work and assign resources as company needs dictate within assigned area. This position will ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal regulations, and provide job estimates for vegetation management work on capital projects. This position will also monitor work production, quality, and expenditures associated with vegetation management. Role Description The Transmission Utility Forester (CUF) reports to the Senior Consulting Utility Forester at ACRT Inc. This position will play a key role in identifying, inspecting, and evaluating trees and brush along utility lines and submitting inspection results to clients with recommendations. This position plans, directs, and coordinates the activities of assigned tree clearance crews. This position requires a love of working outside, excellent attention to detail, and exceptional interpersonal communications skills. What You’ll Do Meter Maintenance: - Perform visual inspections of water or electric meters for leaks or damage - Identify hazards at meter sites and report accordingly - Properly change out water or electric meters of varying sizes and brands - Properly change out meter registers for AMI/AMR upgrade Meter Reading: - Read electric, gas, or water meters - Enter data collected in the field into a handheld computer Surveying Meters and Gas Lines: - Detect location of underground utilities and mark accordingly - Inspect gas meters and associated piping for proper coatings and evidence of atmospheric corrosion - Perform visual inspections of gas meters, lines, and fittings - Grade gas leaks by severity and report escalations accordingly - Identify hazards at meter sites and report accordingly - Clean and re-coat/paint meters and piping Customer & Team Communication: - Refer all consumer complaints to the appropriate authorities - Provide general information about the meter services to customers, when applicable - Use telephones, tablets, and/or computers to communicate - Participate in company-provided safety meetings Key Responsibilities: - Proficient in at least one to two core services such as: - Meter reading (gas, water, or electric) - Small meter installation/exchange. - Basic gas line surveying or detection. - Performs under close supervision. About You Must haves: - Education: None. Must be at least 18 years of age - Experience: Must possess a valid driver’s license. Upon hire, the candidate may need to complete and pass all Pipeline Operator Qualification (OQ) training. Applicants must have a minimum of 1 year of experience in any of these fields: - Electric, gas, or water meter maintenance, installation, or reading - Gas line detection/surveying - 1+ year in related field (electric, gas, water meter maintenance/installation/reading, or gas line detection/surveying). Nice to haves: - Education: High School Diploma or GED - Experience: 1 or more years of experience in gas and/or electric services, 2+ years experience in the direct exchange of water meters and registers of varying sizes; The Ready Force Team Technician plays a key role in gas, water, and electric meter installation/exchange, maintenance and reading, surveying gas lines, as well as customer communication. This role may also participate in atmospheric corrosion, leak surveying, or line locating.
