Role Description We are looking for Senior Software Engineers with deep expertise in backend development, software architecture, and complex codebases. In this role, you'll design realistic software engineering tasks, solve challenging debugging and implementation problems, and contribute high-quality code and technical reasoning that will be used to train advanced AI systems. - CONTRACT: Contractor - COMMITMENT: Hourly/Part-time - LOCATION: Remote - PROCESS: Application Form -> AI Interview -> Selection - HOURLY RATE: $100 - $230/h - NOTES: You need to be able to provide some publicly available work such as GitHub/GitLab repo, PR request, open-source contribution, technical articles, or similar Responsibilities - Design realistic software engineering challenges involving debugging, feature development, code refactoring, and performance optimization - Develop reference implementations and reproducible software environments - Write high-quality code in Python, Java, Go, Rust, C++, or TypeScript - Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex software defects - Refactor and optimize existing codebases for performance, maintainability, and scalability - Document technical decisions, implementation approaches, and engineering rationale - Review and validate technical solutions submitted by other contributors - Apply software engineering best practices across diverse programming languages and systems Qualifications - 7+ years of professional software engineering experience - Strong hands-on expertise in at least one of: Python, Java, Go, Rust, C++, or TypeScript - Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, and software design principles - Experience debugging and optimizing complex production systems

• Assist the development team with day-to-day needs such as test validation, task automation, help with deployments and, of course, coding hands-on.

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using Node.js • Design and evolve RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs supporting modern web applications • Implement business logic, data models, and service integrations • Build reliable, secure, and scalable backend solutions with a focus on performance and maintainability • Collaborate closely with frontend engineers to deliver seamless end-to-end functionality and contribute to React development when required • Participate in architecture discussions and influence technical direction and engineering decisions • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following engineering best practices • Develop and maintain unit and integration tests • Troubleshoot and resolve complex production and non-production issues • Participate in code reviews and continuously improve engineering quality • Contribute to Agile ceremonies and collaborate with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to deliver business value

• Develop, ship, and maintain features and improvements for Agent Observability and Interactions across both the GitLab monolith backend and the AI gateway in a secure, well-tested, and performant way. • Collaborate with Product Management, UX, frontend, backend, and AI specialists to refine requirements and deliver high-quality, iterative product enhancements. • Design, implement, and review GraphQL, REST APIs and related backend logic, ensuring reliability, scalability, and clear contracts with frontend clients. • Improve and extend automated testing, including RSpec and other frameworks, to strengthen quality, reliability, and developer feedback loops. • Share standards, patterns, and learnings with other engineers, raising the bar for responsible AI integration and evidence-driven engineering across the team. • Participate in Tier 2 on-call rotations to troubleshoot production issues, contribute to root cause analysis, and enhance observability and resiliency
