Mechanical Engineering Director – Data Centers

AECOM

• Provide leadership and management for the U.S. Data Center Mechanical Engineering team • Support project delivery across multiple hyperscale data center programs • Establish technical standards, best practices, and quality expectations for mechanical design • Support project teams as a senior technical resource on complex hyperscale data center projects • Provide technical oversight of mechanical system design, including HVAC systems and hydronic piping systems • Ensure alignment with client standards and operational performance requirements • Oversee coordination of mechanical engineering work with other disciplines • Support resource planning, staffing strategies, and workload balancing across the mechanical team • Mentor and develop engineers within the department • Ensure mechanical designs comply with applicable industry codes, standards, and best practices • Stay current on emerging technologies, industry trends, and evolving codes • Provide technical oversight and support during construction phases • Participate in key client meetings as a senior technical representative for mechanical engineering

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Twelve (12) years of relevant experience in mechanical design and/or mechanical engineering, with a focus on data center infrastructure
  • Four years of leadership experience.
  • Professional Engineer License (P.E.) is required
  • Experience working with hyperscale or colocation clients
  • Experience managing large multi-disciplinary design teams
  • Experience with Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build delivery models

Role Description We are seeking a Regional Project Engineer for various construction projects throughout the United States to join our team! The Regional Project Engineer will be responsible for geotechnical/pavement engineering assistance and regional marketing efforts. The ideal candidate will possess experience in geotechnical and construction materials testing, specifically for chemically stabilized soil and full-depth reclamation. This position could be based at one of our office locations or remote, depending on the candidate, and will report directly to our Director of Engineering. In addition to competitive compensation and benefits, this role includes participation in our ESOP. Key Responsibilities: - Provide engineering technical support for active area projects - Review geotechnical and pavement data during bidding to assist with proposals and bids - Research and provide solutions to stabilization and earthwork construction challenges - Review and analyze construction material field and laboratory data during construction - Resolve geotechnical and pavement engineering field problems - Engage with design professionals on applications of chemically stabilized soil and full-depth reclamation - Become an active member in industry-related organizations and activities - Prepare and present research and case studies at conferences and industry events - Implement different strategies based on unique conditions in each market - The position will have an emphasis based on the employee’s location but will also need to travel to neighboring states. Extensive travel will be required! Qualifications - Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering - 6+ years’ experience in civil engineering, construction, geotechnical, and/or pavement engineering - Professional Engineer’s license or the ability to obtain a license within 6 months - General understanding of geotechnical and pavement engineering concepts, specifically chemically stabilized soil and full-depth reclamation - Experience with DOT and FAA specifications and projects - Experience troubleshooting construction issues - Experience with geotechnical and construction materials laboratory testing - Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) - Willingness to learn new skills, attentiveness to detail, and multi-tasking ability - Must be able to demonstrate capabilities in all facets of construction marketing including: - Presentations - Case Studies including written, web, video, etc. - Social media - Technical marketing including engineering, project evaluation, value engineering, etc. - Other passive marketing efforts, etc. Requirements - Ability to operate a company vehicle within our company policy.
