Role Description Insight Schools of California (a network of three public charter schools) delivers online/virtual home-based instruction to students in grades 9-12 in California. Insight Schools of California serves at-risk students. We use K12, inc. as our curriculum provider for the basis of instruction and teachers provide live instruction via the Engageli platform. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are still required to maintain daily attendance, attend instructional sessions, and complete their coursework each day. - The Special Education Mentor trains and supervises education specialists in relation to schoolwide and special education programs, procedures, and policies. - The Sped Mentor monitors compliancy and supports the team in meeting deadlines and requirements. - The Sped Mentor also serves as a member of the Insight leadership team and works collaboratively with other leaders toward accomplishing school goals and promoting student achievement. Qualifications - Must live in California. - Valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential in Mild/Moderate and/or Moderate/Severe Disabilities. - California English Learner Authorization, certification issued by the CTC to teach ELL students. • Modifies and/or adapts the K12 curriculum in alignment with the state’s content standards • Collaborates with general education teachers to meet the goals of the targeted students through individualized and small group sessions • Educates parents on various instructional strategies • Ensures the implementation of the RTI instructional system to increase student achievement • Oversees data collection and progress monitoring at every tier • Serves as a daily resource to school administrators, school leadership teams, and other stakeholders regarding RTI issues

• Working from your secure and distraction-free home office, certified Special Education Substitutes will virtually support the learning program for students in Connections Academy schools across the country. • Consult frequently and regularly with students, Learning Coaches and school personnel to ensure that each child successfully completes his/her instructional program. • Participate in all steps of the IEP process, from analyzing data to delivering and monitoring the IEP (depending on the school they are assigned to). • Work closely with teachers and school professionals to ensure that the assigned school’s special education program is successful and operates in compliance with federal and state regulations. • Utilize the online classroom (LiveLesson) to deliver virtual small group or individual instruction. • Act as teacher of record at various Connections Academy schools during periods of short- or long-term absences or vacancies ranging from, but not limited to, 2-20 weeks, with the average assignment lasting 8-12 weeks in length. • When on assignment, be online and available to students, parents, and school staff Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the time zone of the school to: Communicate with parents, students and other teachers on a regular basis to develop and update individualized learning plans and schedules, provide feedback on student work, suggest instructional approaches and strategies, monitor completion of assignments, and verify student learning. • Complete all grading, generate progress reports, and conduct parent conferences in a timely manner, as instructed by the school. • Support the instructional program through a combination of synchronous and asynchronous web conferencing sessions (LiveLessons). • Work collaboratively with a team of teachers to ensure that all students on the team’s caseload are successfully progressing through the program. • Case manage a group of students, writing and delivering IEPs, and providing direct services as directed by the school. • Work with general education teachers to ensure that IEP goals and accommodations are being met, and that students are being provided with FAPE. • Support students and parents with alternate instructional strategies, and assist with daily assignments and projects. • Keep student records and data up to date, including cumulative files, online student and family information, attendance accounting, and student logs. • When not on assignment, actively check email to remain informed of upcoming assignments and important Substitute Services updates. • Meet at least monthly with an assigned Substitute Services supervisor via video conferencing software, whether on or off assignment. • Complete required professional learning targeted at individual needs throughout the year. • Maintain active certifications.

• Manage and provide instructional guidance, virtual teaching and general strategies for a caseload of students • Develop, write and help implement IEPs and 504 plans • Evaluate tests and assessments, complete report cards and conduct parent conferences • Communicate regularly with parents/learning coaches of students with special needs to ensure that their IEP goals are being met, and that their needs are addressed in a timely and appropriate fashion • Consult with teachers and coordinate the implementation of specially designed instruction as defined in the IEP regarding students with specific needs and potential learning issues • Provide direct services to students including services delivered through web-conferencing software, as needed • Schedule, organize and conduct IEP related meetings in a virtual environment, as needed • Participate in the school’s Student Support Team; help teachers and learning coaches develop and implement program modifications and strategies for all students • Assist, as needed, with the organization and proper implementation of all paperwork, documentation and procedures for the IEP process • Assist with locating service providers for students needing related services as mandated by their IEPs • Assist with negotiating and executing contracts with service providers for students requiring such services • Maintain accurate and up-to-date data in the school’s Learning Management System and special education software • Assist with administering state testing and coordinate the special adaptations that are required based on the IEP • Other duties as assigned
