Role Description JOB TITLE: Adjunct - Online REPORTS TO: Dean of eLearning DEPARTMENT: eLearning EXEMPT: Yes VICE PRESIDENT: VP of Instruction - Academic, Transfer, and Health Sciences GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION: All Hinds Community College employees must commit to the Caring Campus approach to student engagement and daily apply these general behavioral objectives: - Listen to student questions and concerns with a positive attitude. - Make meaningful connections with students. Qualifications - Master’s Degree in the relevant area; terminal degree preferred. - At least 5 years of experience in an appropriate organizational work setting. - Prior experience teaching online is preferred for online classes. - Must complete Hinds Community College New Online Instructor Training. Requirements - Teach assigned courses as specified in the schedule and course contract (2 course limit per semester). - Incorporate Hinds Community College departmental texts and instructional materials; prepare course materials and lesson plans. - Provide students the approved college-wide syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines, and evaluation criteria. - Use the College’s learning management system to post syllabus, assignments, and other materials and to communicate with students. - Deliver course content using a variety of teaching styles and provide interesting and engaging assignments that demonstrate the real-world applications of concepts covered. - Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and learning outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions, or examinations; provide feedback in a timely manner on student progress. - Be available for student consultation through office hours or scheduled appointments or by phone or email. - Maintain records of enrollment and attendance, assessments, and grades; submit class rosters and grade sheets by the deadlines established by the College. - Encourage students to submit course evaluations, review course evaluations when available, and use feedback to improve course delivery. - Revise and update course content as needed. - Attend one or more PDI sessions to become familiar with the College’s mission and teaching philosophy, policies and procedures, and the learning management system. - Meet with the Dean of eLearning or Discipline Department Head or Curriculum Coordinator as needed to discuss all aspects of the course including student progress and curriculum development. - Submit an annual performance review acknowledgement and plan for meeting requirements if needed.
