Senior Security Controls Assessor
Cherokee Federal
• Assess MARAD systems in one of three states: System Authorization: Initial Authorization, Reauthorization, or Continuous Monitoring Assessment (CMA) • Provide annual assessment support to the NSMV and MARAD CIO programs • Conduct independent assessments of specified MARAD information systems • Review existing information system core documentation • Provides identification of non-compliance of security requirements • Validates the security requirements of the information system • Verify and validate that the system meets the security requirements • Execute and conduct analysis of network and systems • Develop security assessment plans and assessment reports • Develop Security Assessment Plan (SAP) • Adhere to the approved SAP • Develop security assessment report (SAR) • Develop / update system qualitative risk assessment reports (RAR) • Develop recommendation report aiding in Plan of Action and Milestone (POA&M) development • Develop security assessment executive summary documents • Enter assessment data the Cyber Security Assessment and Management (CSAM) database • Provide presentations, reports, evaluations, reviews, meeting minutes and working papers as requested • Apply MARAD/DOT A&A guidance and policy • Actively work with the designated Information Systems Security Manager ISSM • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Cybersecurity or related IT field may be substituted for 4 years of experience
- Bachelors Degree in an IT Related Field.
- Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Advanced in AI Audit (AAIA), or equivalent certification
- 12 years of related work experience
- Prior experience supporting US Navy or Coast Guard Maritime Cyber Assessments
- Clearance: Must possess or be able to obtain a public Trust.
- Prior Department of Transportation experience is a plus.
- Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal

• Support the delivery of Microsoft security, specifically in the areas of Purview, data security, data governance and AI • Assist with customer engagements, including discovery sessions, documentation, demonstrations, and implementation • Contribute to security reviews, basic assessments, and gap analyses • Help prepare materials such as presentations, reports, and technical notes • Learn to evaluate and advise on Microsoft security tools, gradually taking on more client-facing work as you develop • Collaborate with your colleagues on internal projects, tooling, service improvements, and knowledge sharing
• Central responsibility for RACF topics in a z/OS mainframe environment — from administration and design to the optimization of authorization concepts. • Analyze and resolve complex third-level security incidents and ensure the stable operation of a business-critical mainframe security landscape. • Maintain and enhance existing mainframe jobs, tools, reports, and interfaces, particularly in the DB2/SQL and REXX context. • Support audit, governance, and compliance requests through access analyses, reports, and evidentiary documentation, and contribute to IAM-related modernization initiatives.
