The Senior Data Scientist I will play a strategic role in working with our research teams to produce valuable insights for our clients. DEPARTMENT: Health Care Evaluation NORC’s expertise and ongoing work in health care delivery and financing — including access to insurance, payment and delivery-system reform, benefit design, and quality measurement — advance stakeholders’ understanding of policies and programs, facilitate implementation, and contribute to important improvements in cost and quality. NORC’s expert staff has extensive knowledge of all aspects of health care delivery, from private marketplaces and employer-sponsored insurance to Medicare and Medicaid; from large health care systems to small clinics; and from the needs of children to those of older adults, people with disabilities, and ethnic and racial minorities. Our expert team includes social scientists that acquire, collect, and analyze data from health care organizations and patients; evaluators; health services researchers; health-policy analysts; and professionals with first-hand experience running and supporting health care programs. RESPONSIBILITIES: - Work with terabytes of health and administrative data, and create analytic data products therefrom to support various healthcare research and technical assistance projects. - Implement specifications for rigorous study designs, and measures of performance such as cost and quality, to evaluate the impact of health care programs and policies. - Identify data from multiple sources, perform analysis and recommend applications to add value to project and corporate initiatives; - Develops the platforms and tools to enhance the organization's analytic capabilities. - Work closely with project leaders on implications of the data for processes and decisions. - Recommend methodology for data management, merging, cleaning, transforming and harmonizing data. - Using a degree of creativity and latitude, develop hypotheses, design experiments and test feasibility of proposed initiatives. - Engage in business development activities including authoring various sections of technical proposals. - Manage contracts and work closely with clients to ensure that contractual requirements (deliverables and timelines) and client expectations are met using the highest standards of quality and collegiality. - Train and supervise staff on specific protocols and tasks. REQUIRED SKILLS: - Bachelor’s degree in Math, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or Social Science related field. Masters Degree or higher strongly preferred. - At least 6 years experience (at least 9 years experience if Bachelor's degree) in positions of increasing responsibility, working with large datasets and conducting statistical and quantitative modeling, melding analytics with strong programming, data mining, clustering and segmentation. - Experience working with health care datasets and working directly with federal or states health data. - Working knowledge of different types of data and of the methodologies and technologies for integrating data. - Strong data programming skills in statistical packages and database tools such as SAS, SQL, Python, R, Tableau, Hadoop, Hive, MapReduce and/or other large data systems. - Strong technical writing skills, strong verbal skills; and data visualization/presentation. - Ability to explain technology, techniques and approaches to others. - Excellent oral and written communication skills and aptitude in leading and working with project teams, coordinating multiple projects. - Strong problem solving skills, ability to organize and prioritize work assignments to meet project needs. - Occasional travel to client sites and business meetings may be required. Dr. Tamir Diamond, Dr. Edward Behrens and their research group at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia are seeking a highly motivated PhD-level Staff Scientist in Translational Bioinformatics to support studies of immune dysregulation in pediatric acute liver failure. The successful candidate will lead computational analyses integrating multi-omic datasets generated from patient blood and tissue samples, with a focus on translational immunology. Our group uses 10x Genomics platforms such as visiumHD, Xenium and GEM-Ex single cell RNA sequencing from blood/tissue, as well as multiprotein assays by O-Link and other vendors. Our group has a collaborative relationship with the CHOP single cell RNA sequencing core on multiple projects providing excellent resources and support. Key Responsibilities - Data Engineering - Design and evolve a scalable, reliable, and maintainable data platform architecture - Oversee development of robust ETL/ELT pipelines and real-time data streaming systems - Establish engineering best practices, including code reviews, CI/CD, data contracts, and observability - Lead technology selection and resource planning across ClickHouse, Spark, and supporting infrastructure - Ensure data quality through monitoring, alerting, SLA ownership, and remediation processes - Manage infrastructure costs and drive optimization across storage, compute, and cloud resources - Artificial Intelligence & Large Language Models - Define and develop the company's overall AI direction and roadmap, aligning initiatives with long-term business strategy - Ensure operational stability and observability of ML services - Define and drive LLM strategy, including identifying high-value use cases, evaluating model providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, open-source), and leading end-to-end implementation - Architect and oversee LLM-powered products, including RAG pipelines, AI agents, and intelligent automation workflows integrated into core business processes - Establish MLOps/LLMOps best practices, including model versioning, evaluation frameworks, prompt management, and drift/hallucination monitoring - Drive responsible AI governance, including bias detection, explainability (SHAP, LIME), fairness auditing, and compliance with emerging AI regulations - Evaluate and integrate vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, pgvector) and embedding strategies to power semantic search and knowledge retrieval - Champion AI-assisted development practices (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor) and foster an AI-augmented engineering culture across data teams - Data Analytics & Quant - Drive advanced analytics, strategy, and Quant development - Partner with stakeholders to translate complex business challenges into data-driven solutions - Define and own key metrics, dashboards, and reporting frameworks to support executive and board-level decision-making - Lead experimentation practices to validate business impact of models and initiatives - Mentor teams, setting technical standards and career development paths Qualifications - 7+ years of hands-on experience across Data Engineering, Data Science, Quant, Data Analytics, delivering end-to-end solutions - 3+ years of managerial experience, leading data teams - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or a related field - Strong programming skills in Python, with experience writing clean, production-grade code - Solid understanding of software engineering best practices (CI/CD, testing, code reviews, clean architecture) - Deep understanding of core ML algorithms: regression, gradient boosting, time series, etc. - Practical experience with ML libraries and platforms (e.g., scikit-learn, XGBoost, TensorFlow, PyTorch) - Strong foundation in mathematical statistics, probability theory, and quantitative modeling - Proficient in SQL and experience with analytical and OLAP databases - English Upper-Intermediate Nice to Have - Background in trading or fintech - Experience analyzing and modeling time series or high-frequency data - Familiarity with anti-fraud systems, risk modeling, or portfolio analytics - Practical experience with integration of LLM with corporate systems for internal users Benefits - 20 paid vacation days per year - 10 paid sick leave days per year - Public holidays according to current legislation - Medical insurance - Opportunity to work remotely - Professional education budget - Language learning budget - Wellness budget (gym membership, sports gear and related expenses)
