Senior Design Specialist – Wireless Voice Core, IMS
TELUS
• Lead architecture, design, and development of IMS and Wireless Voice Core systems (P/I/S-CSCF, SBC, TAS, ENUM, MRF/BGF) • Design and support voice services including VoLTE, VoWiFi, emergency services, roaming, and interconnect • Deploy and maintain scalable, carrier-grade IMS systems optimized for performance and cost-effectiveness • Create CI/CD pipelines to automate testing and deployment • Analyze network performance and optimize architecture; resolve complex technical issues • Develop Methods of Procedure (MoP) documentation for configurations and troubleshooting • Lead testing, validation, and capacity planning across deployments • Collaborate with RAN, Packet Core, Policy, Infrastructure, and Database teams on integrated solutions • Manage vendor relationships and influence solution roadmaps • Work with Red Hat OpenStack, OpenShift, AWS, and containerized environments • Develop KPI dashboards and monitor performance metrics • Participate actively in Agile teams and roadmap discussions
Job Requirements
- 10+ years in 3G/4G/5G Voice Core (architecture, design, implementation, operations)
- Deep expertise in IMS architecture, interfaces (Gm, Cx, Dx, Sh, Rx, Rf, ISC, Mw), and call session control functions
- Strong knowledge of signalling protocols: SIP, Diameter, H248, SS7, CAMEL, RTP/RTCP, GTP, and 5G protocols
- 3GPP specifications and RFC standards expertise
- Hands-on experience with multiple IMS vendors (Ericsson, Nokia); platform debugging and configuration
- Strong understanding of Service-Based Architecture (SBA), LTE/5G Core, and subscriber data management (HSS/UDM)
- Expertise in containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, AWS) and orchestration
- Advanced troubleshooting with Netscout, Wireshark, and PCAP
- TCP/IP networking fundamentals (TCP/UDP/IP/SCTP/Diameter)
- CI/CD pipeline experience (GitLab, Agile methodologies)
- Familiarity with data analytics tools (Splunk, BigQuery, Looker)
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Electrical Engineering, or related STEM field

• Complete substation (Air & GIS) switchyard design packages encompassing operating single line diagrams, layouts, sections, bus calculation/selections, ground grid, cable tray/trench/duct bank, lighting, lightning protection, prefabricated control building layouts, AC/DC station service supply, voltage drop, conduit/cable tray fill, bill of materials, etc. • Complete substation protection and control design packages including single line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, etc. • Complete renewable energy collector system design packages such as medium voltage systems with switchgear, transformers, AC/DC inverters and power cables, AC/DC distribution systems, PV plants, battery energy storage systems, and wind turbines for both wind and solar projects • Interface with internal and external team members including electrical engineers, electrical designers, drafters, project managers, and take ownership of the project to meet and exceed client expectations. • Support development of standards, optimizations, and processes and provide execution plans with strong follow-through
• Support the design and development of high-voltage substation Protection & Control systems for AIS and GIS substations • Prepare and revise P&C design drawings including, single-line and three-line diagrams, DC schematics, wiring diagrams and communication schematics • Assist engineers with the preparation of engineering design packages and deliverables • Ensure drawings and deliverables comply with applicable industry standards including IEEE, NERC, NEC, and NESC, as well as client-specific requirements • Perform redlines, updates, and revisions to existing drawings based on engineering markups • Support project teams by contributing to schedules, deliverables, and coordination efforts • Assist in the development and organization of relay and control panel documentation • Participate in QA/QC reviews to ensure accuracy and completeness of design packages • Coordinate with internal teams including engineering, SCADA, and field services to ensure cohesive project execution • Provide support for field activities such as site visits, FATs, and as-built documentation as required
