Role Description The CLI – Compliance, Litigation, & Insurance Resolution Team Member is responsible for supporting compliance initiatives, incident reporting, case tracking, and resolution while ensuring timely communication with stakeholders and property owners. This role requires a high sense of urgency, strong organizational skills, and flexibility to respond to business needs. Your Main Responsibilities: - CLI – Compliance, Litigation, & Insurance Resolution Team Member - Collaborate with compliance team to draft closure documents as needed. - Develop "how to" modules for closure of recurring issues. - CLI cases are assigned to various stakeholders dependent upon the nature of an issue and are expected to be resolved with the highest level of urgency. - Utilize documented CLI procedures and report on assigned cases in a timely manner each week. - CLI cases shall not be closed without approval from an AFI Principal in conjunction with the CLI Coordinator. - Incident Report Team Member - KPI – response to incident reports within 1 hour of receipt, resolution within 24 hours where applicable. - Directly responsible for driving resolution of new incident reports. - Collect completed incident reports from Onsite Teams and revise/acquire and add additional information as needed. - Email incident reports to applicable Property Owners. - Keep Owners informed of challenges AFI is facing on the asset. - Ensure necessary remediation is included in reports. - Store submitted incident reports in SharePoint under active properties. - Participate in Monday morning CLI Work Session to provide updates on any recent/outstanding incident reports and HLS issues. - For horrific or extraordinary issues (death, suicide, assault, etc.), an AFI Leader will call the Owner in addition to receiving an incident report. - Expectation is that all incident reports will be sent to Owners within 24 hours of receipt. - Urgency and Accessibility - The Owner Issue will regularly require tasks to be completed outside of normal business hours. - Have your phone and computer nearby at all times. - Be energetic about completing tasks. - Flexibility - Remain flexible as these jurisdictions are subject to change. Role Description Legal Aid Alberta (LAA) is seeking to fill a full-time position for a Justice of the Peace (JP) Bail Duty Counsel Lawyer. This is a Remote Work position that can be filled anywhere in Alberta. This position will appeal to an individual that likes to take initiative, is client-focused, and is exceptionally strong in delivering high-quality results. Reporting to the JP Bail Manager, some of the key responsibilities include: - Duty Counsel representation in accordance with professional standards and the Rules and Code of Conduct of the Law Society of Alberta and the policies and procedures of LAA. - Help clients prepare a Bail plan to address the Crown concerns and support their release. - Negotiate with Crown counsel on behalf of the accused for the purposes of Bail. - Provide representation to the accused for JP Bail hearings. - Assist individuals on ‘Brydges’ calls to provide legal advice upon arrest and detention. - Complete and accurate statistical record keeping in keeping with LAA’s strategic priority of accountability. - Compliance with office policy and procedures. - Participate in performance and staff meetings as required. Qualifications - Law Degree from a recognized law school. - Active Practicing member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta. - Minimum 2 years criminal law experience. Requirements - Demonstrated working knowledge of current Canadian criminal law, with a focus on bail law. - Working knowledge of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. - Familiarity with immigration law and Canadian Border Security Agency procedures including Immigration Enforcement, Removal Orders, and CBSA powers (an asset). - Familiarity with Mental Health Act detentions and Mental Health Review Panel procedures (an asset). - Alternative dispute resolution and negotiation skills. - Excellent understanding of court procedures and processes. - Excellent understanding of arrest and criminal procedure. - Well-developed advocacy, problem solving, communication, and conflict resolution skills. - A high level of comfort working with technology and integrated platforms and a keen enthusiasm for learning new IT systems. - Working fluency in MS Office (Outlook, Teams, Word), Webex, web-based legal research tools, and other web-based resources. - Willingness and aptitude to work with clients who have complex needs either through frequent requests for alternate representation, physical or mental disability, substance abuse, or living situations that impair their ability to resolve legal matters.
