Assistant Controller

King Ranch

Role Description What to Expect in the Role: - Accounting Responsibilities: - Review work performed to ensure accuracy, identify and resolve issues and ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and corporate policies. - Monitor royalty contracts and manage related revenue recognition. - Assist with and review input of vouchers, invoices, reports, and other payables items. - Perform periodic review and analysis of inventoried assets across multiple operating locations. - Review invoices for fixed asset determination. - Schedule and perform periodic inventory and fixed asset count and reconciliation. - Review general ledger reconciliations, including monthly bank reconciliations. - Review monthly accrual and other journal entries as needed for operations. - Close and Reporting: - Coordinate with the Retail and Corporate Controllers to ensure timely close and reporting on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. - Prepare monthly operating reports detailing actual and forecasted results. - Conduct monthly cash flow forecasting. - Prepare and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs). - Prepare annual budgets for all locations. - Coordinate audits of company’s accounts. - Prepare reports required by regulatory agencies. - Coordinate the month-end and year-end closing process across multiple locations. - Review company financial statements for accuracy and clarity. - Other: - Support the creation of and adherence to policies and procedures for the segment. - Support process improvement and optimization of NetSuite ERP. - Assist with development of operational and financial reporting, including review for accuracy. - Demonstrate a strong ability to communicate areas of accounting with operations. - Show a commitment to safeguarding the assets of the company. - Maintain a high level of confidentiality for a private, closely held company. Qualifications - Prefer proficiency or familiarity with NetSuite, JD Edwards, Hubble, and Power BI. - Results-oriented with the ability to prioritize your workload while performing multiple tasks. - Detail-oriented in execution of work. - Adaptable to various competing demands and demonstrate a high level of mental agility. - Strong business acumen and acute problem-solving skills. - Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and capable of utilizing Microsoft Word programs. - Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and interpersonal), the ability to interact with all levels of management throughout the organization, and the initiative to get the job done. - Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing. - Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration. - Master’s degree is a plus. - Should have 5+ years’ accounting experience. Location This position is open only to residents of Texas and Florida. We prefer candidates to work from our Wharton, TX office or one of our branch offices in Texas or Florida. However, for an exceptional candidate, we are willing to consider a full-time remote arrangement. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. CPA designation is preferred. MBA a plus. - Public accounting audit training and experience, ideally Big 4 preferred. - Prior consulting experience with multiple clients at one time preferred. - 10-15+ years of relevant experience. - Strong leadership and supervisory skills. - 5+ years’ experience managing a team. - 2+ years’ experience with Ramp and/or Bill. - 2+ years’ experience with QuickBooks Online. - Use of Claude or other AI tools in prior position(s) with ability to articulate efficiencies gained. - Direct experience with manufacturing clients. - Experience managing multi-channel distribution businesses a plus. - Strong business acumen, analytical and critical thinking skills. - Industry experience in technology (ideally SaaS as well as hardware companies), medical device, and life science preferred including start-up companies. - Strong Excel skills and proven ability to model full financial statements, budgets, and forecasts (integrated P&L, BS, and CF). - Effective and credible at managing the monthly close process along with meeting management’s expectations. - Able to adapt quickly to the changing demands of our clients. - Excellent planning, analytical and people skills. - Attention to detail, organized and thorough with desire for continuous improvement. - Comfortable interacting across all disciplines of the company. - Thrive in a fast-paced, growing start-up environment and work independently when necessary. - Superior written & oral communication skills.
