Role Description We’re looking for an experienced backend engineer to join us! We currently have two cross-functional product teams. We’re ambitious, and have many interesting strategic and technical challenges ahead of us, including: - Working towards our multi-product strategy as we scale our Plans product - Releasing our newest AI Revenue Engine product which is integrated across our product suite and provides multiple communication channels including voice, email, WhatsApp, and chat - Expanding our target audience to include other primary healthcare providers (like vets and hearing specialists) and other regions/countries such as Germany Our legacy Finance system has supported us for 8 years and enabled us to reach >10k dentists and create a sustainable, profitable business as we rapidly scale further. You should expect to play a key role in our engineering team: - We typically use the following tools and technologies: - Go to write our application code - Google Cloud and AWS for infrastructure - Confluent Kafka for our events handling - Serverless technologies in AWS e.g. API GW, Lambda, EventBridge, DynamoDB, Docker for our new infrastructure - Postgres for our databases - Our frontend uses Javascript and TypeScript and is hosted on Vercel Our interview process includes: - You’ll start by having an initial call with our recruiter. From there, the process has three main stages: - A take home task (should take no more than 2 hours) or provide a sample from a public GitHub we can discuss - A technical interview with our engineering team - A behavioural interview with our product team - As part of the process, we also ask candidates to complete a short critical thinking assessment in their own time. We use this as a benchmark alongside the interviews. Role Description We are looking for a Software Architect to lead the technical direction of our API Platform. This role combines the responsibilities of an architect and a hands-on technical leader for the team. - API Platform owns the foundations that internal and external consumers rely on: API design conventions, reliability and performance, versioning and lifecycle, and the tooling and infrastructure that make it easy for product teams to build great APIs. - As Software Architect, you will set the vision, define the strategy, and guide implementation of our API platform over the coming years. - You’ll work closely with Engineering and Product leadership, other platform teams, and product squads to ensure our API ecosystem enables teams to move quickly. Qualifications - 10+ years of experience as a backend or platform engineer building and operating large-scale, distributed systems. - Proven track record in leading technical direction for complex systems. - Strong experience designing and evolving public or internal APIs (REST/gRPC/GraphQL): modeling, versioning, backward compatibility and deprecation strategies. - Experience driving cross-team initiatives: aligning stakeholders, defining roadmaps and delivering multi-stage projects that impact many squads. - Solid understanding of distributed systems fundamentals: reliability, scalability, consistency, latency, and failure modes. - Hands-on experience with observability (metrics, logs, tracing), performance tuning and designing systems that are safe to change and easy to debug. - Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical partners, influence decisions and build consensus around architectural direction. - Experience mentoring senior engineers and helping teams uplevel their system design and API design skills.
