Job Description

Head of Development - Data-Viz Startup - B2B SaaS

Vizzlo

Role Description We are looking for a hands-on Head of Development to lead our engineering team remotely within Germany or from our offices in Leipzig. This is a full-time role for a technical leader who still loves to get into the code, who cares about shipping great software, and who wants room to grow. If you're a senior engineer who's ready to own a team and a platform without leaving the craft behind, keep reading. As our Head of Development, you own the "how" behind everything we build. You lead our engineers, make the architecture calls, keep the pipeline humming, and still ship code yourself when it matters. In a small team, no task is "not your job"—and you wouldn't have it any other way. - Lead the Team: Guide and grow our engineering team across Dataviz, Frontend, Backend, Integrations, and DevOps. Set the technical direction, unblock people, review code, and raise the bar on quality. - Own the Architecture: Take responsibility for our overall architecture, technology choices, and the scalability of the platform—and stay hands-on enough to know why every decision holds up. - Frontend & Backend: Steer our TypeScript/React development for web and desktop, and our Go/Postgres backend. You lead by example, not just by ticket. - Dataviz Engine: Drive the development of our browser-based data visualization engine (TypeScript) and its interaction interfaces—the heart of what makes Vizzlo, Vizzlo. - Integrations: Own the tech behind our third-party integrations: Google Slides (Google Apps Script) and Microsoft PowerPoint (VSTO and Office.js, C# and TypeScript/React), plus partner integrations like SSO/IdP providers (Okta, OneLogin, Google Workspace, Microsoft Entra ID) and our store presence (Microsoft Store, Apple App Store, Google Workspace Marketplace). - DevOps & Ops: Run our CI/CD pipeline and deployment process, keep production healthy on Vercel and AWS (ECS, RDS, …), manage our Docker-based preview environments, and keep the critical systems ticking (GitHub, CircleCI, ZenDesk, Google Workspace, plus payment and accounting integrations like Chargebee, Stripe, PayPal, and DATEV). - Keep Us Safe & Sound: Help ensure our data protection and security standards are met, keep the relevant docs and policies current, and manage technical risk sensibly. - Get Shit Done: Do whatever it takes to move the product forward—coordinate a release, hunt down a nasty bug, pair with an engineer, or jump on a customer's integration issue. And yes, occasionally make coffee for the team. Qualifications - Excellent written and spoken English skills (a must); good German skills are a plus. - 3+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, plus at least some experience leading or mentoring a team—formally or informally. You want the leadership scope to grow. - Deep, practical knowledge of the technologies we use—at minimum TypeScript/React and Go. You can still read, write, and review the code, not just talk about it. - Solid experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, and with modern DevOps and CI/CD practices. - Experience building third-party integrations and designing clean APIs. - Track record of shipping in a SaaS environment with continuous deployment. - A genuine interest in data visualization—and ideally some opinions about how it should be built. - Strong communication skills and commercial sense: you get that engineering decisions serve business priorities, not the other way around. - A bias for action: you'd rather ship something solid and iterate than architect in a vacuum for months. Requirements - Bonus: you've worked with Postgres at scale, built Office/Google add-ins, wrangled Vercel/ECS/RDS in production, or have strong feelings about bar charts vs. pie charts. Benefits - Full-time leadership position with a competitive remuneration package. - Equity participation (VSOP)—you share in what we build. - Start-up environment where your talents and motivation make a real, visible impact. - International team of highly motivated doers. - Fully remote position (within Germany), with ultra-nice offices in Leipzig (Plagwitz) for optional in-person collaboration. - Need something else? Ask!
