SCADA/Relay Settings Engineer III
Amped I LLC
• Lead development and approval of protective relay settings using SEL relays for transmission, distribution, and generation facilities. • Configure complex SELogic equations and automation logic using SEL AcSELerator QuickSet. • Integrate Orion I/O and automation devices for control, monitoring, and substation automation. • Perform short-circuit, protection coordination, and arc-flash studies to support protection philosophies and system reliability. • Engineer SCADA point mapping and communications for SEL relays, Orion devices, RTACs, and gateways. • Design and support SEL RTAC-based automation, data concentration, and protocol conversion. • Configure DNP3, IEC 61850 (GOOSE/MMS), Modbus, and Ethernet/serial communications. • Coordinate SCADA database development and point-to-point testing with control centers. • Develop HMI screens for local substation control, alarms, and monitoring. • Serve as a primary technical point of contact for clients on protection, SCADA, and automation matters. • Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and technical workshops to define requirements and review deliverables. • Communicate technical concepts, risks, and recommendations clearly to client engineering, operations, and IT stakeholders. • Support project scoping, schedules, and technical deliverables in coordination with project managers. • Address client questions during design, testing, and commissioning phases to ensure expectations are met.
Job Requirements
- Strong understanding of a substation project lifecycle at the utility level
- Excellent technical communication and detail-oriented work practices
- High comfort level with teaching, training, and mentoring team members
- Bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited university in Electrical Engineering
- Engineer in Training (EIT) designation required.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in relay protection and control design of high voltage 12-500 kV substations and/or protective relay and SCADA setting development.
