Manager, Software Engineering – Identity Platform
Marqeta
• Own the end-to-end identity verification lifecycle, from one-time CIP checks at account opening through ongoing CDD and continuous customer risk monitoring, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory compliance at every stage. • Build and operate systems that enforce KYC obligations across the full framework: identity verification (CIP), risk-based due diligence (CDD), and event-driven re-verification as customer risk profiles evolve. • Drive AI-first automation, reducing manual review rates and increasing efficiency across KYC/KYB decisioning, sanction screening, and Red Flag rule evaluation. • Lead and mentor a high-performing engineering team, improving velocity and system reliability through intelligent workflows and automation. • Act as the technical and business-facing leader in customer and regulatory escalations, translating complex compliance scenarios into scalable platform improvements. • Partner cross-functionally with Risk, Compliance, Product, Operations, and Legal to shape the platform roadmap and identity verification strategy.
Job Requirements
- Experienced engineering leader (8–10+ years in engineering, 3+ years managing senior and staff engineers).
- Deep backend engineering expertise, you have a strong foundation in building and scaling backend systems, and you can credibly engage with your engineers on architecture, performance, and design trade-offs.
- Breadth across the stack, you've led teams delivering across multiple product lines and paradigms: from synchronous API services (Java/Spring Boot) to batch and event-driven ETL pipelines (Python/Airflow), and you know how to apply the right tool for each problem.
- Operational excellence and incident management, you hold a high bar for system reliability and on-call hygiene, drive blameless post-mortems, and ensure your team can detect, respond to, and learn from incidents quickly.
- Hands-on AI-first mindset: you embrace AI/ML to improve team velocity, drive automation, and reduce manual review rates.
- Strong ownership mentality, you thrive in ambiguity and take full responsibility for outcomes.
- Comfortable engaging directly with enterprise customers and compliance officers, translating technical decisions into clear narratives for non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent communicator who can lead cross-functional initiatives and influence stakeholders at all levels.
