Role Description Methane is the most complex and consequential emissions challenge facing the oil and gas industry. Measuring it correctly, reporting it credibly, and managing it strategically requires a depth of expertise that very few people in the world possess. Highwood is looking for one of those people. As a Principal Consultant, you are Highwood’s most senior technical presence on a client account. You are not a project manager and you are not a salesperson. You are the person clients trust when the stakes are highest: the expert who helps them see the true shape of their methane challenge, architects the path forward, and becomes the anchor of a long-term advisory relationship. Highwood’s model is expert-led. Thought leaders open doors; you create conviction. You lead the senior discovery work, translate technical complexity into a clear and credible action plan, and hand off to a delivery team who executes with precision. Then you return — for Quarterly Business Reviews, Annual Strategic Reviews, and any moment where the depth of your expertise and the strength of your relationships determine the outcome. This is one of the most consequential roles in the energy transition. The clients you advise are responsible for a meaningful share of global methane emissions. The frameworks you help them implement — OGMP 2.0, EUMR, measurement-informed reporting — are shaping what credible methane management looks like for the entire industry. You will not just be advising on standards. In many cases, you will be helping to set them. What you’ll do (high-level): - Client Discovery & Solution Architecture - Lead senior discovery engagements with new and expanding clients — help them understand the full scope of their methane challenge, not just the piece they came to you with. - Translate technical complexity into clear, practical solution architecture: measurement programmes, OGMP 2.0 level pathways, reporting frameworks, data infrastructure, mitigation strategy, and the role of EIP in holding it all together. - Help clients understand what credible methane management looks like — and why Highwood’s integrated approach (advisory, platform, professional services) is the path to getting there. - Scope engagements that are commercially viable and technically rigorous; create clean handoffs to delivery teams with zero ambiguity. - Codify repeatable diagnostic and scoping frameworks; make Highwood’s discovery capability stronger with every engagement you run. - Return for QBRs, Annual Strategic Reviews, and expansion moments where senior technical credibility changes the outcome. - Senior Relationship & Customer Success - Serve as the long-term senior relationship holder on your accounts — the person the client’s leadership thinks of as Highwood’s face. - Own the Customer Success Management (CSM) Plan for every strategic account: stakeholder map, account health, 12-month engagement plan, renewal ownership. - Conduct Quarterly Business Reviews — demonstrate value, share a data-derived insight the client hasn’t seen, and deepen the relationship at every touchpoint. - Monitor account health proactively and act at early warning signals; own EIP and consulting renewals no later than 90 days before expiry. - Champion client needs internally — ensure Highwood’s product, delivery, and strategic attention are proportionate to the importance of the account. - Delivery Oversight & Quality - Maintain strategic oversight of delivery for your portfolio — accountable for quality and direction, not hands on the keyboard. - Serve as the final quality authority on deliverables for strategic accounts; ensure outputs are technically defensible and consistent with the solution architecture. - Engage directly on the most complex components — regulatory interpretation, measurement methodology, reconciliation of top-down and bottom-up inventories, verification readiness. - Resolve significant client concerns or escalations at the most senior level. - Thought Leadership & Commercial Collaboration - Represent Highwood in the market as a recognized expert: speaking at industry conferences, contributing to standards bodies, publishing technical perspectives, and leading executive briefings. - Work alongside Account Managers and Door Openers to convert market access into scoped, contracted engagements — provide the technical credibility that closes the gap between interest and commitment. - Identify emerging regulatory and market developments and advise Highwood leadership on how to respond. - Mentor Staff and Senior Consultants; set the technical standard the team aspires to. Qualifications - 15+ years of relevant experience in oil and gas, emissions management, environmental consulting, or a directly adjacent field. - Deep, practitioner-level expertise in methane emissions measurement, quantification, and reporting — including direct experience with OGMP 2.0, LDAR, top-down measurement technologies, and measurement-informed inventory reconciliation. - Demonstrated experience with major regulatory and voluntary frameworks: OGMP 2.0 (Level 4/5), EU Methane Regulation (EUMR), MiQ, TCFD, or equivalent. - Track record of leading senior client advisory relationships — you are someone client executives call when a decision is hard. - Ability to translate technical complexity into strategic clarity for non-technical audiences, including C-suite and board level. - Commercially aware: comfortable scoping work that is deliverable and profitable, and supporting account managers in structuring engagements. - Experience with emissions intelligence platforms, data management, or digital reporting tools is a strong asset. - Existing industry relationships and market presence are a significant advantage. - A degree in engineering, environmental science, or a related field; advanced credentials are valued. Benefits - Our Canadian health and dental benefits package includes coverage for dental visits, prescription drugs, vision, massage, physiotherapy, and psychotherapy — we pay the premiums, and the package includes your partner and dependents. - We offer $5,000/year to help cover non-essential educational pursuits of your choice. - For our Canadian employees, we provide RRSP matching after three months. - We have an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). - We offer similar benefits to our employees elsewhere in the world.
