Code Reviewer Engineer
HireHawkSave up to 80% on payroll with fully vetted global contractors—compliant and productive from day one.
Role Description This is a dedicated Code Reviewer role embedded within a client’s engineering team. You will not be expected to build new features as your primary responsibility; your impact will come from reviewing pull requests, identifying risks, and helping the team maintain high engineering standards. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys improving code quality, maintainability, and security across modern software systems. - Review pull requests for correctness, readability, maintainability, performance, and security before code is merged. - Provide clear, constructive, and actionable written feedback aligned with the client’s engineering standards. - Identify architectural concerns, design tradeoffs, and maintainability risks that go beyond syntax or style issues. - Escalate complex technical concerns to the client’s tech lead with enough context to support fast decision-making. - Enforce API consistency, backward compatibility, and clean integration patterns across services and applications. - Spot common security vulnerabilities such as SQL injection, XSS, IDOR, unsafe authentication flows, and insecure data handling. - Help maintain consistent code quality across backend, frontend, database, and cloud-native work depending on the assigned client stack. - Support a healthy review culture by giving feedback that is professional, specific, and respectful. - Deliver reliable pull request review turnaround within agreed async workflows, generally within 24 hours. - Document recurring code quality issues and patterns so the team can improve over time. Qualifications - 4+ years of professional software engineering experience in a relevant production environment. - Strong written English at C1 level or higher; this is non-negotiable because most feedback will be written. - Meaningful hands-on experience reviewing pull requests in GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, or a similar workflow. - Strong experience in at least one of these stacks: Node.js or Python backend with React/TypeScript and PostgreSQL; Java with Spring Boot, microservices, and AWS or GCP; or Python data/backend stack with FastAPI or Django, SQL, and cloud-native systems. - Solid understanding of clean code, SOLID principles, common design patterns, and maintainable software architecture. - Ability to identify security, performance, backward compatibility, and architectural risks in code reviews. - Experience working independently in an asynchronous remote environment and able to deliver pull request reviews within 24 hours. Requirements - Experience reviewing code across both backend and frontend systems. - Familiarity with cloud-native development patterns in AWS or GCP. - Experience with microservices, distributed systems, or API versioning. - Background mentoring engineers through written technical feedback. - Experience creating or improving code review standards, checklists, or engineering guidelines. Benefits - Access to a $200K+ perk marketplace with discounts on 150+ global services. - Option to withdraw up to 50% of approved earnings before payday.
