• Improve low-code authoring tools: form designer, workflow designer, entity designer, and application migration tooling • Design and implement entities, forms, workflows, and searches for trial payment scenarios (participants, protocol visits, site agreements, payment status, amendments, holds) • Build and maintain REST APIs and gateway layers • Work with SQL Server views, queries, and schema changes • Support Azure services (Function, Blob Storage) where modules need them • Write unit and integration tests and participate in code review and module upgrade validation • Collaboration with cross-functional teams

Role Description As Staff AI Backend Engineer, you work in a remote or hybrid setup in close collaboration with Product, Forward Deployed/AI Engineers, and Data Scientists. You operate as the technical anchor for our backend and agent platform — setting direction, raising the bar, and multiplying the impact of the engineers around you. - Own the technical backbone of our Decision Intelligence platform and the architecture that lets it scale. - Set the direction for building scalable backend services that bring forecasting and optimization models, agentic workflows, and semantic data layer into productive use. - Work AI-first: use Claude Code or similar CLIs, MCPs, and custom skills. - Think in terms of customer value, product impact, and adoption. - Define how we measure feature adoption, instrument usage patterns, and steer the roadmap with Product and FDE. - Architect, build, and operate scalable backend services in Python (FastAPI, Pydantic) for agent workflows, forecasting, and replenishment. - Design clean API and service contracts between platform, agents, ML models, frontend, and customer systems (ERP, BI, planning tools). - Own the semantic data layer: PostgreSQL modeling, dbt transformations, pipelines, caching, and retrieval. - Define how we integrate LLM and agent systems into the backend. - Drive our AI-first engineering culture with tools like Claude Code and AI-assisted development. - Translate ambiguous business and customer requirements into coherent technical strategy. - Prototype fast and close to the user, gathering feedback and iterating on workflows. - Raise the engineering bar through code and design review, mentoring, documentation, and standards. Qualifications - 8+ years as a Backend, Software, or AI Engineer in a product-oriented environment. - Track record of leading the design and delivery of complex systems, ideally in a product or SaaS context. - Experience in startup (0→1) environments is very welcome. - End-to-end ownership of significant services, domains, or platform areas. - Deep backend expertise across Python (FastAPI, Pydantic), clean API design, async programming, PostgreSQL, Redis, Docker, and mature CI/CD. - Proven experience in agile, fast-moving teams. - Demonstrated technical leadership in owning architecture of non-trivial systems. - A strong product mindset focused on user impact and adoption. - Production-grade LLM and agent experience. - Solid command of cloud infrastructure (ideally AWS), including Kubernetes and Infrastructure-as-Code with Terraform. - High level of ownership and comfort with ambiguity. - Clear, compelling communication skills, both technical and non-technical. - Fluent in English.
