• The Director of Communications leads The Biomimicry Institute’s communications function, helping translate TBI’s mission, programs, partnerships, and thought leadership into clear, compelling, and coordinated communications across channels. • This role is responsible for communications strategy, editorial planning, storytelling, media relations, brand consistency, digital engagement, and campaign execution. • Develop and implement communications strategies that advance TBI’s mission, strategic priorities, programs, fundraising goals, and public visibility. • Maintain an integrated communications calendar across campaigns, newsletters, website updates, social media, events, launches, partner moments, and organizational announcements. • Translate complex programmatic, scientific, design, innovation, and organizational content into accessible and engaging communications for priority audiences. • Lead development of high-quality content across TBI channels, including website, email/newsletter, social media, reports, campaign materials, event communications, press materials, and partner/funder communications. • Manage media relations, including press inquiries, media lists, pitch development, press materials, and coordination with external PR or communications partners. • Coordinate communications around key external moments such as conferences, Climate Week, COP, and other strategic opportunities. • Track and report communications metrics, including audience growth, engagement, website performance, email performance, campaign results, media placements, and other relevant KPIs. • Partner with the Development team to create compelling donor, funder, sponsor, and partner communications.

• Plan and execute strategic external communications activities to support Kyverna’s business goals; this includes priorities such as targeted, proactive media relations. • Develop a pipeline communications strategy and related activities to manage key company data milestones. • Lead stiff person syndrome (SPS) pre-launch communications plan and supported activities, in partnership with Corporate Communications team. • Shape and implement the Company’s social and digital media strategy including managing and updating Kyverna’s corporate digital channels (website, social media feeds, etc.) and driving a social media calendar to maintain stakeholder engagement. • Write press materials (press releases, Q&As, key message documents, etc.) and maintain a corporate news flow calendar. • Support the development of a corporate narrative that can be used to create content for Kyverna’s internal and external corporate channels. • Maintain and update Kyverna’s core corporate communication tools (corporate deck, corporate ads, style guidelines, branding, etc.). • Support crisis communications and issues management when needed. • Build strong working relationships with the Investor Relations team and respective subject matter experts across pipeline programs. • Manage agency partners. • Plan and execute internal communications activities to drive employee education and engagement around the business strategy. • Develop and write internal communications (internal announcements, change management communications, etc.). • Partner with functional leaders to understand their strategies and how best to communicate internally. • Closely partner with the Human Resources team on related employee engagement plans.

Role Description We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Laser Optical Communications Engineer/Architect to lead the design, development, and testing of advanced free-space optical (FSO) communication systems. You will work at the intersection of photonics, laser systems, and space/airborne communications to build next-generation terminals for terrestrial, airborne, and space-based platforms. Key Responsibilities: - Lead architecture and design of laser communication terminals and subsystems, including optical benches, beam steering modules, and acquisition/tracking mechanisms. - Develop link budgets, simulate end-to-end optical communication performance, and optimize for SWaP-C constraints. - Drive component selection, integration, and system-level validation (e.g., lasers, modulators, beam expanders, fiber optics). - Collaborate with electrical, RF, mechanical, and software teams to integrate optical comm systems into airborne or space-qualified platforms. - Support optical alignment, calibration, and test (including pointing, tracking, and acquisition) in lab and field settings. - Engage in customer briefings, system requirement definition, and roadmap planning for optical comm architectures. - Author technical documents, system specs, and support IP and proposal development. Qualifications - M.S. or Ph.D. in Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. - 7+ years of experience in free-space optical communication or directed energy systems. - Hands-on expertise in laser systems, optical alignment, and fiber-coupled systems. - Familiarity with optical simulation tools (e.g., Zemax, Code V, FRED) and MATLAB/Python. - Experience with optical communication protocols and pointing/tracking systems for free space optical communication or other applications. - Understanding optical link impairments, turbulence effects, and acquisition/tracking strategies. Requirements - Experience with space-qualified optical systems or flight hardware. - Knowledge of standards like CCSDS or optical inter-satellite link (OISL) protocols. - Familiarity with SWIR/MWIR optics, MEMS beam steering, or Risley prisms. - Background in secure communications, encryption, or waveform design. - Active security clearance or ability to obtain one.
