Referral Specialist

Classet

• Access and navigate the United Healthcare provider portal on a daily basis. • Submit and manage referral authorization requests. • Enter patient diagnoses, provider information, and referral details with a high degree of accuracy. • Verify provider and facility information, including National Provider Identifiers (NPIs). • Utilize internal reference guides, code lists, and portal resources to complete authorization requests. • Secure authorization numbers required for specialist appointments. • Monitor authorization status and update records accordingly. • Ensure referrals meet insurance requirements and compliance standards. • Collaborate with scheduling and follow-up teams to support patient care workflows. • Assist with additional referral coordination tasks as workload demands.

Job Requirements

  • 1–2 years of experience in one or more of the following:
  • Health insurance portal management
  • Prior authorizations
  • Medical billing support
  • Healthcare data entry
  • Referral coordination
  • Experience navigating insurance provider websites and online healthcare portals.
  • Strong data entry skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to accurately process large volumes of information.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Strong computer proficiency and comfort learning new systems.
  • Previous experience using United Healthcare (UHC) or UHC Link portals (Nice to Have).
  • Knowledge of prior authorization workflows (Nice to Have).
  • Familiarity with provider credentialing information and NPIs (Nice to Have).
  • Experience working in medical offices, healthcare administration, or referral management (Nice to Have).
  • Understanding of insurance eligibility and referral requirements (Nice to Have).

Position requires visual acuity for PC and document records; requires good speaking voice for training presentations and phone interactions. Auditory acuity for training and telephone use as well as digital dexterity for PC use are required. Must possess valid driver’s license for use of company vehicle. • Communicate with customers or potential customers as requested to provide site evaluations, handle discrepancies, complaints, and advice on recommended remedial action or procedures as required. • Assists with communication with AHJs as requested for Inspection departments and represent VSC and the customer’s interests and work to resolve issues of non-compliance or discrepancy. • Work closely with technical trade employees or departments to ensure that clients understand circumstances involving disagreement such as scope, method of handling on site conditions, or other client dissatisfaction, and that all are handled tactfully and with patience and integrity.
