Role Description Angel City VA is looking for a Bilingual Patient Communication Specialist that serves as a key communication bridge between patients, providers, and clinic staff, ensuring accurate, professional, and culturally sensitive communication in both English and Spanish. This role is responsible for providing real-time verbal interpretation, written translation support, patient communication management, and administrative assistance related to patient care coordination. The ideal candidate will have strong bilingual communication skills, excellent grammar and writing abilities, knowledge of medical terminology, and experience in healthcare communication. This position will support patient interactions through phone calls, SMS messaging, appointment coordination, follow-up communication, and general administrative support while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and compliance with healthcare standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Interpretation & Translation: - Provide accurate verbal interpretation between English and Spanish for patients, providers, and clinic staff. - Ensure accurate use of medical terminology in both languages. - Maintain cultural sensitivity and communication clarity in all interactions. - Patient Communication Support: - Respond to patient SMS messages professionally, accurately, and with proper grammar in both English and Spanish. - Triage patient concerns, inquiries, and communication issues, escalating cases to the appropriate department or clinical team to ensure timely follow-up and resolution. - Handle inbound and outbound patient phone calls. - Assist patients with appointment scheduling, confirmations, follow-ups, referrals, and general inquiries. - Support providers and staff with patient communication needs. - Administrative & Clinical Support: - Assist with communication workflows related to patient care coordination. - Document communication interactions accurately in clinic systems. - Support administrative tasks related to patient communication and scheduling. - Help manage communication queues to ensure timely responses. - Provide general support to clinical and operational teams as needed. - Compliance & Quality Standards: - Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality at all times. - Ensure all communications meet clinic professionalism and quality standards. - Deliver accurate interpretation and communication support in a fast-paced clinical environment. Qualifications - Fluency in English and Spanish (spoken and written) — required. - Strong grammar, spelling, and professional writing skills in both languages — required. - Medical interpreter certification or healthcare translation certification — strongly preferred. - Previous healthcare, clinic, medical office, or patient communication experience — preferred. - Knowledge of medical terminology in both English and Spanish. - Experience handling phone systems, SMS communication platforms, and patient communication tools. - Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask. - Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills. - Proficiency working within the Microsoft ecosystem (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, and related tools). - Ability to follow established organizational policies, procedures, communication workflows, and confidentiality standards.
