Role Description We are seeking a Big Data System Specialist to design, build and maintain reliable, scalable data movement solutions across batch and real-time streaming environments. This role focuses on ensuring high availability, performance and security of data pipelines, connectors and supporting infrastructure, while providing advanced operational support and guidance to service users across the organisation. What you’ll do - Provide Level 2 and Level 3 support for data movement application clusters, instances and dataflows, managing incidents and problems. - Define technical requirements and design, configure and implement data movement solutions at application, operating system and cluster levels, aligned with agreed KPIs and best practices. - Develop and maintain data streaming pipelines for data ingestion and output across multiple sources and destinations. - Design, configure and implement data connectors in line with business needs. - Configure, monitor and maintain infrastructure to improve performance, security, robustness and availability, using proactive monitoring, alerts and notifications. - Perform technical investigations and root-cause analysis, ensuring transparency and proposing sustainable solutions. - Actively support transformation and technology refresh programmes to improve service availability, performance and quality. - Contribute to automation, standardisation and continuous improvement initiatives to simplify recurring tasks. - Share knowledge and maintain accurate, detailed documentation and operational runbooks. - Participate in on-call and exceptional support activities when required by business needs. - Deliver additional business or technical requests as assigned by the direct superior. Qualifications - Motivated to learn and continuously develop new technical skills. - A structured problem-solver with strong analytical and critical thinking abilities. - Well organised, able to prioritise effectively and deliver results under pressure. - Comfortable working in remote and distributed teams. - Fluent in written and spoken English. - Customer-oriented, with the ability to positively influence service experience. - Experienced in creating clear, detailed technical documentation. Technical knowledge and experience - Advanced knowledge of installing, configuring and operating Apache Kafka, Apache Flink or Apache NiFi in production environments (advantage). - Good knowledge of Java. - Good system administration knowledge (RHEL or similar). - Good understanding of office systems, IT equipment, hardware and software. - Knowledge of common cloud services and general security principles. - Experience with scripting languages and databases. - Familiarity with container orchestration, preferably Kubernetes (nice to have). Qualifications (nice to have) - CCAAK, CTAK or equivalent Apache Kafka certification. - Java SE Oracle Certified Associate or Professional (or equivalent). - RHCSA or equivalent system administration certification. Reporting to the VP, Market Development, this role is responsible for driving new partnerships, new member growth and strategic market expansion across management companies, ownership groups, destination organizations, and travel ecosystem partners. This is a sales-driven role responsible for building pipeline, closing partnerships, and delivering measurable revenue impact. The position operates in a high-growth environment, requiring the ability to manage multiple projects while helping scale a rapidly expanding certification program.
