General Adjuster
Sedgwick
• Investigate claims against insurance or other companies for personal, casualty, or property loss or damages • Attempt to effect out-of-court settlement with claimant • Handle complex losses locally unassisted up to designated authority • Assist on larger losses, including handling accounting-based losses (business interruption and stock) • Examine claim form and other records to determine insurance coverage • Interview, telephone, or correspond with claimant and witnesses regarding claim • Consult police and hospital records; and inspect property damage to determine extent of company's liability • Estimate cost of repair, replacement, or compensation • Prepare report of findings and negotiate settlement with claimant • Recommend litigation by legal department when settlement cannot be negotiated • Attend litigation hearings • Revise case reserves in assigned claims files to cover probable costs • Assist in preparing loss experience report to help determine profitability and calculates adequate future rates
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred
- Must have earned the IIA-AIC designation and be actively pursuing another professional insurance designation
- Appropriate state adjuster license is required
- Five (5) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required
- Strong oral and written communication, including presentation skills
- PC literate, including Microsoft Office products
- Demonstrated commitment to timely reporting
- Strong customer service skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Good time management and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment

• The Adjuster III investigates, evaluates, and adjusts assigned claims, which typically consist of medium to complex non-litigated and litigated general liability, third-party automobile bodily injury and property damage claims. • Must be qualified legally and technically to handle all claims competently and able to handle more complex, litigated claims. • Investigate, analyze, and determine the extent of the client’s liability concerning personal, casualty, or property loss or damages. • Correspond with or interview employees of the client, medical specialists, agents, witnesses, or claimants to compile information. • Obtain all necessary reports and documents to analyze and evaluate the loss or damages and attempt to effect settlements with claimants when appropriate. • Assess and estimate vehicle damage or property damage. • Compile information through interviews. Examine evidence to determine if it will support claims. • Gather physical evidence and inspect properties to determine damages.
• Deliver exceptional customer service to individuals whose vehicles require repair • Conduct virtual inspections of vehicle damage, prepare repair estimates, complete total loss valuations, negotiate settlements • Operate independently, manage workload, explain coverage, estimates, claim processes, settlements, and rental procedures to both agents and customers
• Investigate and evaluate flood claims on behalf of our clients • Manage all assigned claims with minimal oversight • Make claim decisions within delegated authority • Interpret policy coverages and apply appropriate claims practices • Establish and communicate reserves in alignment with carrier expectations • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of insurance policies, guidelines, and industry practices • Understand local construction methods, pricing, and repair standards • Provide exceptional customer service to all insureds, clients, and stakeholders
