Coding Specialist
Trinity Health
• The Coding Specialist analyzes physician/provider documentation contained in health records (electronic, paper or hybrid) to determine the principal diagnosis, secondary diagnoses, principal procedure and secondary procedures. • Utilizes encoder software applications, which includes all applicable online tools and references in the assignment of Internal Classification of Diseases, Clinical Modification diagnosis and procedure codes, and Current Procedural Terminology / Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) procedure codes and all required modifiers.
Job Requirements
- Two years of current Coding Experience
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Procedural Coder (CPC), Registered Health Information
- Completion of an AHIMA-approved coding program or an AAPC-approved coding program, or Associate’s degree in Health Information Management or a related field or an equivalent combination of years of education and experience is required.
- Current experience utilizing encoding/grouping software is preferred.
- Ability to utilize both manual and automated versions of the ICD and CPT coding classification systems is preferred.
- Ability to use a standard desktop and windows based computer system, including a basic understanding of e-mail, internet, and computer navigation.
- Ability to use other software as required to perform the essential functions on the job.
- Familiarity with distance learning or using web-based training tools desirable.
- Well-developed written and oral communication skills that may be used either on-site or in virtual working environments.
- Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups representing diverse perspectives.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment.
- Ability to research, analyze and assimilate information from various on-site or virtual sources based on technical and experience-based knowledge.
- Must exhibit critical thinking skills and possess the ability to prioritize workload.
- High School Diploma Required/ AAS preferred
- Ability to lift 20 lbs.

Role Description We are seeking experienced Medical Biller with a strong background in Appeals and Accounts Receivable (AR) Management. The primary focus of this role will be spine-related AR cleanup, requiring in-depth knowledge of orthopedic billing processes and payer guidelines. - Manage and follow up on Accounts Receivable (AR), with a focus on spine-related claims - Review, analyze, and appeal denied or underpaid claims - Perform AR cleanup by identifying and resolving outstanding balances - Communicate with insurance companies to obtain claim status and resolve issues - Prepare and submit appeal letters with proper documentation - Ensure accurate and timely payment posting follow-ups - Maintain detailed records of all claim activity and resolutions - Collaborate with internal teams to address billing discrepancies and improve processes Qualifications - Minimum 2+ years of medical billing experience in a U.S.-based healthcare setting - Proven experience with Appeals and AR Management - Strong knowledge of orthopedic billing, especially spine procedures (highly preferred) - Familiarity with CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding related to orthopedics - Experience working with U.S. insurance payers (commercial, Medicare, Medicaid) - Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills - High attention to detail and ability to work independently Requirements - Please note that this is a full-time contractor position (40 hours per week) - The schedule is Monday through Friday, from 9 AM to 5:30 PM PST.
