Job Description

Communications Specialist

murmuration

• Develop content and communications efforts that build awareness of Murmuration’s mission, work, and impact; • Support the Sr. Manager of Brand & Communications in identifying opportunities, drafting materials, developing prep materials, and preparing spokespeople; • Draft high-impact content, including op-eds, guest essays, briefing materials, and thought leadership content that elevate Murmuration’s voice in key conversations; • Collaborate with other teams to develop clear, compelling materials for digital, print, and partner channels, including emails, blog posts, web content, case studies, interviews, Substack, etc.; • Develop and oversee applicable visual and creative collateral, including design assets, illustration, reports, and presentations in collaboration with Murmuration’s Creative Director; • Coordinate the external editorial calendar and help with project management, content, and creative assets; • Ensure consistent brand voice and messaging across all platforms and materials; • Track and analyze communications performance metrics to inform future strategies; and • Independently manage multiple projects at once, setting priorities, timelines, and next steps.

Job Requirements

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences and formats;
  • At least 4 years of experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or related fields;
  • Strong project management skills and comfort managing competing priorities;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and take ownership of work;
  • A collaborative spirit and ability to build trusted relationships across internal and external stakeholders;
  • Commitment to Murmuration’s mission of strengthening civic participation and democratic culture.

  • A background in journalism, creative writing, or public affairs, and/or
