Seasonal Associate, Substation Physical Drafter I

Role Description This position is a part-time (up to 30 hours per week), on-call position. Work may be performed remotely from any U.S. location. Pay for this position is $23 per hour. ICF is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Seasonal Associate, Substation Physical Drafter I responsible for converting engineering sketches into detailed layout and construction drawings of high-voltage substation projects. This entry-level position will assist engineers and senior designers in preparing physical layout drawings, equipment arrangements, and construction packages in accordance with client standards, industry codes, and company procedures. What you will be doing: - Develop and modify substation physical drawings under the direction of engineers and senior designers, including: - Substation One Line and Three Line - Station General Arrangements & Sections - Grounding Plan & Details - Conduit Plan & Details - Control Cubicle Layout, Sections, Cable Tray, Lighting, and Grounding - Low-Voltage AC Panels - Cable List - Drawing List - Assist in the preparation of Bill of Materials based on Design Criteria. - Interpret redlines, markups, and sketches from engineers and convert them into accurate design documents. - Maintain drawing files, standards, and documentation in accordance with company QA/QC procedure. - Apply client standards related to the work. - Ensure company’s Quality assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) processes are being followed on all design packages. - Continuous improvement of job-related engineering, technical and professional knowledge, skills, and performance. - Support revisions during project lifecycle, including IFC updates and as-built drawings. - Follow applicable codes and standards such as NEC, NESC, IEEE, and client-specific requirements. Qualifications - High School Diploma - Certification in Drafting (i.e. AutoCAD Drafter), Engineering Technology, or a related field Requirements - Currently pursuing a degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field - Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation - 0–2 years of drafting experience (substation, utility, or industrial experience preferred but not required) - Exposure to substation design (12 kV – 230 kV) or utility projects - Knowledge of Autodesk Inventor 3D substation modelling or ability to learn it on the job as fast as possible - Familiarity with: - Electrical equipment (transformers, breakers, bus, structures) - Conduit layouts and cable routing - Basic understanding of engineering drawings and layouts - Strong attention to detail and organizational skills - Ability to follow instructions, take redlines, and apply corrections accurately - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - Knowledge of Bluebeam or similar markup/review tools Benefits - Pay for this position is $23 per hour. - The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is: $31,272.00 - $53,162.00
