Role Description We are looking for detail-oriented Operations Data Analyst Interns to support Instawork's Field Operations (FO) team. You will work with operational data—markets, territories, business locations, worker coverage, and visit schedules—to build and maintain route maps and planning spreadsheets that help FOs run efficiently in the field. This is a fully remote internship with clear deliverables, performance incentives, and regular feedback. If you enjoy working with data in Excel, have strong attention to detail, and want hands-on exposure to operations at a fast-growing marketplace—this role is for you. Key Responsibilities - Build and maintain Excel workbooks for FO route planning, territory coverage, and visit schedules. - Clean, validate, and organize location and operational data (addresses, zones, markets, visit frequency, priorities). - Create route maps and territory layouts using Excel (tables, pivots, conditional formatting) and/or mapping tools (e.g., Google Maps) as directed. - Support route optimization by grouping stops by geography, time windows, and FO capacity. - Produce weekly and daily planning sheets for FOs: who visits where, in what order, and with what targets. - Track coverage gaps (uncovered businesses, overdue visits, imbalanced territories) and flag issues to the FO lead. - Maintain documentation of assumptions, data sources, and version history for planning files. - Incorporate feedback from FOs and managers to improve accuracy and usability of plans. Qualifications - Microsoft Excel: Intermediate-advanced skills including VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, INDEX-MATCH, pivot tables, conditional formatting, data validation, named ranges, SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, IF, date logic. - Data hygiene: Sorting/filtering large datasets, deduplication, standardizing addresses/zones, spotting inconsistencies. - Spatial / route thinking: Grouping locations by proximity, zones, or drive time; basic understanding of territories and visit sequencing. - Attention to detail: Accurate data entry, cross-checking outputs, catching errors before plans go to the field. - Communication: Clear notes in spreadsheets; ability to explain how a route or territory was built. - Reliability: Meet deadlines; follow templates and SOPs; respond to revision requests quickly. Requirements - Experience with Google Sheets or Excel Power Query for imports and refreshes. - Familiarity with mapping tools (Google My Maps, QGIS, or route APIs). - Basic SQL or comfort exporting from dashboards/CSVs into Excel. - Prior work in logistics, field sales, delivery routing, or operations planning. - Understanding of US/Canada metro markets or multi-city territory design. Sample Deliverables - Territory assignment sheet: businesses to FO to zone to visit cadence. - Weekly route plan: ordered stop list per FO with estimated time/distance notes. - Coverage dashboard: % of accounts visited, gaps by market, overdue visits. - Master location file: validated addresses, geocodes (if available), market tags. Expectations - Daily: Update planning files from latest operational data; fix errors flagged by FOs. - Weekly: Refresh route maps and territory balances; submit summary of changes and open gaps. - Quality bar: Plans must be accurate, reproducible, and easy for a non-analyst FO to follow. Our Values - Empathy, Trust & Candor: We put ourselves in the shoes of our colleagues and customers and don’t shy away from uncomfortable conversations, instead building trust through honest and direct feedback. - Bias for Action: We practice high-velocity decision-making, clear-eyed that we often operate with incomplete information. Growing quickly means it’s OK to be wrong, so long as we learn from our mistakes and course correct! - Always Be Learning: We’re a curious bunch, and with AI transforming our workplace we encourage everyone to learn from each other, compounding our knowledge and experience to help us change an entire industry. - Act Like an Owner: We work long, hard, and smart, building products that delight our users and drive growth. Your ability to impact Instawork is limited only by your courage and conviction, not your job description.
