Adjunct Faculty, Education (Middle Childhood Education Science Methods)
Franklin University
Role Description The Adjunct Faculty role includes primary responsibility for providing quality instruction and maintaining a positive learning environment with an emphasis placed on teaching, supporting and evaluating students. Assigned courses are online instruction. The Adjunct Faculty member teaches undergraduate licensure methods courses designed to prepare candidates for student teaching. Instruction emphasizes: - Pedagogical strategies - Instructional planning - Assessment practices - Professional expectations aligned to licensure standards The faculty member evaluates student readiness for clinical practice while maintaining attendance and submitting grades within University guidelines. A positive, collaborative learning environment is cultivated to encourage reflection and skill development. Participation in required training and professional development is expected. Course Outcomes - Summarize how students learn science. - Explain the level of detail for various scientific concepts appropriate for middle school learners. - Teach science effectively. - Plan for effective science instruction. - Use guided inquiry as an instructional strategy. - Communicate science content accurately, coherently, and enthusiastically. Duties and Responsibilities - Teaches courses in discipline. - Maintains attendance records, determines and submits grades within established timeframes set by the University. - Creates a welcoming, inclusive, and productive learning environment. - Supports the resolution of student issues related to course instruction. - Provides feedback on what is working and what is not with the course. - Participates in all department meetings and required training. - Participates in personal professional development. - Performs other duties as assigned by the Lead Faculty. Qualifications - Minimum of an earned Master's degree with 18 graduate credit hours in a field appropriate to the teaching discipline, from a regionally accredited college or university. - Previous P-12 Teaching Experience Required. - 4-8 Science Teaching Certificate Required. - Commitment to collaborative & collegiate relationships. - Maintain confidential and sensitive information. - Knowledge of higher education regulations, compliance, and accrediting agencies. - Computer proficiency. - Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. - Ability to communicate in a professional manner and work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and members of the professional community. - Excellent multi-tasking skills. - Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Skills and Characteristics - Previous teaching experience.
