Job Description
Senior DevOps Engineer
Foodics
Role Description We're hiring a Senior DevOps Engineer to lead significant improvements across the reliability, operability, and delivery of our platform. You'll work across the full lifecycle: - Understanding where our engineering teams are feeling friction today. - Designing pragmatic infrastructure and deployment improvements. - Shipping improvements safely and supporting them in production. You'll be working on a containerised platform running in Kubernetes, with Google Cloud-hosted services, Cloud SQL-backed applications, Redis, RabbitMQ, and a CI/CD flow built around Docker, Jenkins, and our deployment tooling. The challenges are real, the autonomy is high, and the team is small enough that your decisions matter. Qualifications - Kubernetes depth: Comfortable operating production Kubernetes environments and improving how services are deployed, configured, and run day-to-day. - Cloud platform experience: Strong hands-on experience with a major cloud provider - ideally GCP - including networking, IAM, managed services, and the trade-offs between building and buying. - CI/CD and release engineering: You've built or significantly improved delivery pipelines and understand how to balance speed with safety, traceability, and roll back confidence. - Containers and Linux fundamentals: Comfortable debugging containerised workloads, understanding what is happening at the process/network/filesystem level, and getting to root cause without guesswork. - Observability and incident handling: You know what good operational visibility looks like and can improve logging, metrics, alerting, and incident response in practical ways. - Automation instinct: Strong scripting and automation skills (Bash, Python, or similar) with the instinct to remove repetitive manual work rather than normalise it. - Security and secrets awareness: You take a thoughtful approach to access, credentials, service boundaries, and production change risk. - Engineering partnership: Can work well with software engineers and technical leaders to refine operational needs, push back constructively, and improve the platform without becoming a ticket firewall. - AI-assisted development: You use modern AI tooling (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot or similar) to accelerate investigation, automation, and delivery - and you have a healthy scepticism of its output. You don't automate your judgment away. - Communication and judgment: Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and the ability to explain trade-offs clearly to both engineers and non-engineers. Requirements - Experience supporting PHP/Symfony application estates or similar service-oriented web platforms. - Experience with Cloud SQL / MySQL, Redis, RabbitMQ, or similar managed data and messaging components. - Background working across a mixed estate of legacy and modern services, where incremental improvement matters more than greenfield purity. - Infrastructure-as-code experience (Terraform or similar). - Cost optimisation, capacity planning, or performance tuning experience in a production cloud environment. - Experience improving internal developer platforms, golden paths, or self-service tooling for engineering teams. Benefits - Curated career progression planning with formal yearly reviews and informal check-ins along the way. - Encouragement to grow into a Feature Development Lead. - A competitive salary. - Ample time to learn new concepts - including paid development and business-related conferences. - Fully remote working, no commuting expenses. - Flexible work hours. We'll need you around for a 10am stand-up; otherwise you work as and when it suits you. - 25 days holiday (plus bank holidays), with an additional day per year of service. - Regular all-company socials and quarterly team socials. - A team that genuinely likes learning and shipping together.

• Take ownership of AWS-based infrastructure, managed via Terraform across a multi-account, multi-tenant estate. • Drive improvements in multi-tenant SaaS infrastructure design, scalability, and self-service (documentation, runbooks, PR-based workflows) so engineering teams are not blocked on tickets. • Enable AI engineering and product teams — infrastructure for AWS Bedrock, LangChain-based services, and sandbox accounts so AI features and internal tooling can move fast without compromising guardrails. • Maintain and extend CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions (including OIDC to AWS). • Ensure high-quality Docker usage for local dev setups, testing pipelines, and deployments. • Own operational identity management with FusionAuth (SSO, migrations, Terraform operationalisation) • Improve monitoring and observability with Sentry and CloudWatch (including cross-account patterns for developers). • Champion security, privacy, and compliance best practices across the platform (including ISO 27001-aligned controls). • Support migration programmes (e.g. E-WISE, MINT/Esperanto) with AWS accounts, networking, DNS, and cutover work. • Collaborate with engineering, product, operations, IT, and external partners.
