Job Description

Staff Software Engineer, Agentic Marketplace

Scope3

About Scope3 Scope3 is the industry’s leading collaborative sustainability platform. By modeling the complex digital advertising supply chain, we help brands measure and dramatically reduce digital waste to reduce carbon emissions from advertising and increase the efficacy of advertising investment. This is an exceptional opportunity to build a company alongside great people and make a difference in one of the most important issues facing the planet: the climate crisis. We’re a venture backed company of 65 folks distributed across the globe. We are fortunate to be led by an experienced leadership team, many of whom designed and engineered the digital advertising landscape as we know it today. The company secured $20M in Series B funding led by GV in Oct 2023 (additional investors include Venrock, Rucker Park, Room40 Ventures, and Craft Ventures), and we are thrilled to be the recipient of an additional round of $25M in Oct 2024 . Scope3 has significant market traction with more than 150+ customers and is experiencing accelerated growth. Scope3 is a fully remote company and largely asynchronous to provide flexible working hours and to operate globally, with concentrations in New York and Europe. At this time, we are hiring in Canada, Australia, UK, France, Germany, and the United States. About the Role We’re building the future of programmatic advertising through AI agents. Our Agentic Marketplace team is creating the infrastructure that enables AI agents to discover, negotiate, and transact media inventory autonomously. In this role, you’ll be a technical leader responsible for the APIs, protocols, and agent interfaces that power our agentic advertising platform. You’ll design systems where AI agents are first-class participants, with their own authentication, capabilities, and communication standards. You’ll work at the intersection of advertising technology, distributed systems, and emerging AI agent frameworks—making architectural decisions that shape how our marketplace evolves. This is a hands-on leadership role. You’ll write production code, prototype new agent communication patterns, review system designs, and mentor engineers while setting technical direction. Responsibilities: Design and architect scalable APIs for both human and AI agent clients Lead development of agent interfaces, MCP servers, and A2A communication layers Build and operate high-throughput systems for real-time advertising transactions Evaluate and integrate emerging agent frameworks and protocols Partner with product and design to define clear, agent-friendly API contracts Drive architectural decisions around authentication, protocols, and transaction flows Collaborate with external DSPs, SSPs, and agent platform partners Mentor engineers on API design, distributed systems, and agent architectures Anticipate and address edge cases in autonomous agent behavior Qualifications: Compensation: The salary range for this role is $160k-$230k USD / $170k-$225k CAD. These ranges span multiple location-based salary bands across the US and Canada. Candidates are aligned to a narrower range based on geographic market compensation data specific to where they live, and final offers reflect demonstrated skills, experience, and role expectations. Benefits & Perks: Details vary by location (USA/Canada), but all employees receive: Health & wellness: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage with significant employer contribution; short- and long-term disability coverage; health savings/flexible spending options Retirement: Employer-matched retirement savings plan (401(k) or RRSP) Time off: Generous paid time off, statutory holidays, and year-end office closure Parental leave: 13 weeks fully paid (eligibility requirements apply) Remote work: Company-provided home office equipment, setup stipend, and access to WeWork spaces Equity: Stock options for eligible roles Our Culture & Values Passion for the environment and climate work. We are a mission-driven company, and this is what motivates us to work hard and deliver outcomes for our customers. Clear and empathetic communication, especially while working asynchronously. We have always been a global, remote-first company and we collaborate using Notion, Miro, Slack, Loom, and other tools. We celebrate healthy conflict in the workplace; we focus on the solutions and we move on quickly. The ability and accountability to deliver what we promise. We do what we say we will do, and we don’t make promises we can’t keep. Experience driving systemic change. Our mission is to make advertising and AI more effective for the economy and the environment, and this requires a holistic approach to re-imagining and inspiring an industry movement at a global scale. A Note To Applicants We believe that all people are capable of great things. We encourage you to apply even if you do not meet all of the requirements that are listed within this job description.

About P-1 AI: We are building an engineering AGI. We founded P-1 AI with the conviction that the greatest impact of artificial intelligence will be on the built world. Our first product is Archie, an AI engineer capable of quantitative intuition over physical product domains and engineering tool use. Archie initially performs at the level of an entry-level design engineer but rapidly gets smarter and more capable. We aim to put an Archie on every engineering team at every industrial company on earth. Our founding team includes the top minds in deep learning, model-based engineering, and industries that are our customers. We closed a $23 million seed round led by Radical Ventures that includes a number of other AI and industrial luminaries (from OpenAI, DeepMind, etc.). About the role: We’re a small team tackling an ambitious problem. At the core of our solution is an intelligent, agentic platform that acts as a tireless teammate which can perform all of the same actions that human engineers can, from developing an intuition about the company’s products and the physics at play in their design, to accessing and using information systems, to decomposing performance requirements and developing them into design solutions. Archie must be scalable, responsive, and competent, and must also be deployable within the corporate networks of our customers so that he can see their most valuable information and do his job well. What you’ll do: Work with our team to understand our Archie capability roadmap and decompose capabilities into technical development. Turn capability prototypes and PoCs from our AI research team into robust, scalable implementations. Diagnose and solve technical problems identified by our team or users. Develop and act on automated platform tests, including traditional software testing, agentic AI evals, and infrastructure. Improve Archie’s scalability and robustness through system architecture design and implementation. Who you are: You’ve consistently taken technical ownership of production-grade software. You’re experienced with application development in Python. You’ve built and implemented data models and database interactions. You develop an obsession with understanding your users’ goals and incorporating this knowledge into your solutions. Take pride in developing quality code and practices. Are aggressively seeking ways to use AI better in your own workflows. Our values: Mission obsession & urgency : We are obsessed with building engineering AGI as quickly as possible. We also recognize that as a startup, speed is our most precious competitive advantage. We are constantly asking ourselves what we can do to go faster. We make tradeoffs and sacrifices (personally and in the workplace) in exchange for speed. Intellectual excellence & curiosity : We ask “what if?” and experiment liberally. We always look for better ways of doing something. We read voraciously. We challenge each other to be better. We surround ourselves with A players and we actively and unapologetically reject B players (and even B+ players⸺because they tend to surround themselves with C players). Shipping discipline: We treat production with respect. We test and demo our product constantly. We listen attentively to our customers, users, and stakeholders, and we respect our commitments to them. We also respect our commitments to each other and will go the extra mile (or ten or one hundred) to honor them. Ownership: We all have significant ownership stakes in the company and operate in founder mode. We believe in hierarchical requirements but not in hierarchical information flows. If we see that something is broken or can be done better, we flag it and we fix it. We encourage each other to play with and fix anything and everything... but there’s a clear owner for everything. Interview process: Initial screening call (30 mins) Biographical/behavioural interview (45 mins) Technical interview (60 mins) CEO interview (30 mins) Compensation: Salary: $200k - $250k. This role includes a significant equity component. We are an early-stage startup, so we favor equity over cash in our current compensation philosophy. This role is best suited for candidates who value long-term ownership and impact over short-term cash optimization. Our benefits include healthcare, dental, and vision insurance, 401k with employer matching, unlimited PTO.
