Job Description
Lead Engineer – MV Components
General Electric - GE
Role Description As a Lead Engineer for MV Components design, you will be responsible for the design, selection, and integration of Medium Voltage components within our FACTS (STATCOM and SVC) global projects. This role focuses on the technical excellence of electrical components such as reactors, capacitors, resistors, instrument transformers, and switchgear. You will drive technical improvements, ensure compliance with international standards, and lead the execution of engineering activities from the tender phase through to project delivery. At this level, you are expected to operate with high autonomy, providing technical leadership and making informed decisions to solve complex engineering challenges. Roles and Responsibilities - Component Engineering: Execute the design, specification, and evaluation of Medium Voltage (MV) components (e.g., Reactors, Capacitor Banks, Surge Arresters, and Instrument Transformers) ensuring they meet project requirements and business standards. - Technical Leadership: Act as a subject matter expert for MV electrical components. Lead the technical review of vendor documentation, including drawings, data sheets, and test reports. - Project Execution: Manage the integration of MV components into the overall FACTS system design, collaborating closely with Layout, Control, and Power Electronics teams. - Standardization & Quality: Ensure all component designs and selections adhere to international standards (IEC, IEEE) and GE Vernova’s internal quality and safety protocols. - Supplier & Tender Support: Support the Sourcing team in technical discussions with suppliers and assist the Sales/Tender team with technical optimized solutions and cost-effective component selection during the bidding phase. - Problem Solving: Use your technical expertise and analytical thinking to solve complex problems, proposing innovative solutions that may fall outside standard parameters while maintaining project integrity. - Mentorship: Provide informal guidance and technical mentorship to junior engineers and new team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence. Qualifications - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited university or college. - Substantial experience in Electrical Component Engineering or Substation Equipment design, specifically focused on Medium or High Voltage applications. - Strong oral and written communication skills in English; proficiency in the Finnish language is preferred and considered a strong advantage. Requirements - In-depth knowledge of MV/HV equipment design, insulation coordination, and short-circuit calculations. - Familiarity with FACTS (STATCOM/SVC) or HVDC systems is considered a significant advantage. - Experience with electrical calculation tools and an understanding of 3D/2D design environments (e.g., AutoCAD). - Demonstrated ability to document, plan, and execute engineering tasks within tight project schedules. - Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to influence internal stakeholders and lead technical discussions with global suppliers. Benefits - Fair pay and performance-based rewards. - Wellbeing programs for you and your family. - Opportunities to move across teams and functions. - Support for navigating your career journey aligned with a healthy work-life balance.
