Job Description

Software Engineer

The Helper Bees

• Collaborate with your PM and designer to transform ambiguous challenges into fully instrumented, production-ready software. • Drive technical design for squad-led initiatives—drafting documentation, evaluating trade-offs, and steering the final decision. • Develop and maintain production-grade systems across our web platforms, mobile applications, and third-party integrations. • Troubleshoot complex, cross-system issues with a balanced approach of curiosity and composure. • Continuously elevate our engineering standards through rigorous code reviews, proactive refactoring, and enhanced tooling. • Leverage AI tools (such as Cursor, Copilot, and Claude) as a force multiplier and help define team protocols for their effective use. • Investigate practical applications for AI, ranging from internal workflow automation to features that enhance the member care experience. • Guide the engineers around you, ensuring the team is stronger and more capable through your mentorship.

Job Requirements

  • Substantial experience (typically 5+ years) building production software in cross-functional teams where you own outcomes end-to-end
  • Strong product instinct - You prioritize the user experience as much as the code and know when a problem isn't worth the investment.

  • Clear writing and communication - You can articulate complex trade-offs to product managers and junior engineers with equal clarity.
  • Experience with Python, Django, DRF, Celery, Postgres, and React.
  • A genuine curiosity regarding AI tools and their impact on development; you use them regularly and have informed opinions on their trajectory.
  • Bonus points if you have experience with GCP, Airflow, Docker, React Native, LLMs, or domain expertise in regulated healthcare (HIPAA) environments.
