Role Description The Electrical Engineer will support solar and renewable energy projects by developing and reviewing electrical and solar system designs using Rated Power and AutoCAD. This role will ensure technical accuracy and efficiency by preparing design packs, creating diagrams and layouts, and integrating civil, mechanical, and electrical inputs. - Develop and review electrical and solar system designs using Rated Power and AutoCAD, ensuring optimal efficiency and technical accuracy. - Prepare detailed design packs for internal projects and external tenders (as required). - Create single-line diagrams, cable schedules, and electrical layout drawings in alignment with project specifications and New Zealand regulations. - Design efficient solar farm layouts that take into account topography, shading, resource consent conditions, and grid connection requirements. - Integrate civil, mechanical, and electrical design inputs to ensure system cohesion and constructability. - Support the in-house development of solar projects from feasibility through to consent submission. - Evaluate design alternatives to optimise cost-benefit outcomes, balancing performance and capital efficiency. - Assist in preparing documentation for resource consent applications and liaise with consultants and local authorities when needed. - Contribute to project scoping and tender documentation when invited by clients. - Provide engineering support during construction, ensuring electrical installations align with design intent and standards. - Assist in resolving technical issues during installation and commissioning phases. - Prepare as-built documentation post-construction, including updated drawings and compliance verification reports. - Collaborate with multidisciplinary consultants and contractors, reviewing their electrical and solar design deliverables. - Identify potential design improvements or risks early in the project lifecycle. - Participate in internal design and coordination meetings to ensure alignment across engineering and project teams. - Other roles specific duties as they arise. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification. - 5+ years’ experience in electrical design, preferably within solar or renewable energy projects. - Experience in the Australian or New Zealand energy markets, with an understanding of local standards, codes, and consenting processes. - Experience performing PVsyst simulations and energy yield analysis for solar PV projects advantageous. - Proficiency in Rated Power for solar system modelling and AutoCAD for design drafting. - Knowledge of electrical design standards, grid connection requirements, and HV/LV system layouts. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance design efficiency and cost. - Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. - Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality design documentation. - Experience with large-scale or utility solar farms in Australia or New Zealand. - Familiarity with PV system optimisation, grid compliance, and inverter design principles. - Demonstrated ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively within a project team. - Passion for renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure development is desirable. • Serve as the senior technical resource during assigned shifts • Monitor and manage electrical, mechanical, and environmental systems • Lead response to alarms, events, and abnormal conditions • Conduct detailed facility walkthroughs and validate system performance • Lead shift turnovers and status communications • Operate and maintain UPS, generators, switchgear, ATS/STS, PDUs, and RPPs • Lead preventive and corrective maintenance activities • Enforce LOTO, electrical safety, arc-flash, and PPE requirements
