Job Description

Senior Data Scientist

Murmuration

Role Description As a Senior Data Scientist at Murmuration, you’ll practice “full-stack” data science, shepherding problems from ideation to implementation. The Data Science team works on diverse datasets with hundreds of millions of records to analyze data, build pipelines, and derive insights to power Murmuration’s data and tools. A core part of this work is our predictive stack: we use the voter file and other supplemental datasets to build scores that predict individual behaviors and beliefs, such as likelihood to turn out to vote, support an issue, or volunteer on a campaign. These scores help campaigns and organizers allocate their resources more effectively, reaching the right people at the right time. In this role, you will help drive this work forward, developing innovative methodologies with a focus on campaign data models and entity resolution. As a senior member of the team, you’ll mentor developing data scientists and junior analysts and collaborate closely with the engineering, product, and research teams. Qualifications - 6+ years of work experience as a Data Scientist or equivalent role producing models and analytics for business applications; - Deep understanding of advanced data science techniques, machine learning algorithms, and optimization methods; - Experience building and deploying machine learning models; - Proficiency in data engineering and data pipelines; - Skill in using advanced data visualization tools and techniques to effectively communicate insights and tell compelling stories with data; - Mastery of programming languages (Python and SQL), version control (Git), and ability to learn and apply new data science tools and techniques efficiently; - Exceptional problem-solving abilities, strong leadership skills, and ability to communicate insights strategically to influence team direction; - Ability to mentor and guide junior team members in their technical growth and development; - Capacity to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. Requirements - Lead and execute data science projects, including predictive modeling, algorithm design, and data pipelines; - Develop innovative, industry-leading campaign data science models, specifically partisanship and turnout models; - Independently (and often collaboratively) explore data sets for insights and understanding what can help drive product development and feature prioritization; - Transform data into actionable and compelling insights through analysis and visualization, and then effectively communicate these data-driven stories to internal and external stakeholders through memos and presentations; - Collaborate with the Engineering Team to take data science products and concepts into production; - Provide guidance and mentoring to level-up junior data scientists in both formal and informal learning sessions; - Apply emerging AI technologies to R&D challenges; you’ll prototype novel approaches, evaluate feasibility, and bridge the gap between cutting-edge capabilities and practical usability. Benefits - Health, vision, and dental insurance with 100% of premiums covered for you and qualifying family members; - Retirement benefits with a 5% employer match; - A flexible unlimited PTO plan; - Generous paid parental leave; - Pre-tax commuter benefits; - A company laptop; - A flexible remote work environment; - A home office setup stipend for all new employees; - Monthly reimbursement for remote work expenses; - A yearly professional development fund; - Mental health and wellness benefits through Calm and Better Help; - Yearly in-person staff retreats; - A welcoming culture that celebrates diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Role Description As a Data Scientist on our Applied Research team, you will build the intelligent systems that create the data our customers depend on. You will: - Design extraction and classification models that process enterprise-scale document corpora. - Build and evolve the entity resolution and signal detection layers powering the Commercial Graph and Financial Graph. - Define how AI capabilities surface as recommendations, agents, and search across the platform. - Own the models, pipelines, and graph structures that are the product. - Work directly with engineering, product, and customers on problems where a single clause can represent tens of millions of dollars of exposure. - Ensure model accuracy has a contractual SLA. Qualifications - 5+ years of experience in data science, applied ML, or AI research with production-shipped systems, not just notebooks and prototypes. - Strong statistical foundations and the ability to define and evaluate success metrics for AI systems including precision, recall, coverage, latency, not just accuracy. - Deep experience building NLP, NLU, or document understanding models that operate on messy, real-world unstructured data at scale. - Strong intuition for entity resolution, knowledge graph construction, or graph-based modeling. - Hands-on proficiency in Python and modern AI frameworks, with experience deploying models into production pipelines. - Comfort with information extraction, classification, and retrieval-augmented generation patterns applied to real enterprise workloads. - A track record of working cross-functionally with engineering and product to shape what gets built. - Clear, structured communication skills. - High ownership mentality regarding model quality, pipeline reliability, and customer outcomes. Requirements - Experience building or evolving knowledge graphs, commercial ontologies, or financial data models in enterprise contexts. - Prior work on document AI, OCR pipelines, or hybrid extraction systems combining rule-based and learned approaches. - Exposure to AI agent architectures, tool-use patterns, or autonomous reasoning systems in production. - Background in procurement, contract management, spend analytics, or financial operations domains. - Experience with evaluation frameworks for AI systems (RAGAS, custom eval harnesses, human-in-the-loop QA pipelines). - Familiarity with distributed data platforms, event-driven architectures, or streaming systems (Ray, Kafka, Azure Service Bus). - Prior work at a high-growth startup or enterprise AI company. - An MS or PhD in a quantitative field. Benefits - Competitive salary. - Annual performance bonus. - Employee stock option plan. - 100% paid medical, dental, and vision coverage. - 401(k) with employer contribution. - Generous vacation and sick leave. - Flexible work arrangements. - High-quality equipment for home and office. - Strong culture of collaboration, mentorship, and continuous improvement.
